Darkwood
The eastern region of Grimizan Region is Darkwood. Land previously ruled by Ostenweld, it has since been given to the Grimizan Kingdom in exchange for King Gideon Grimizan siring a son with Duchess Elara Darkwood to become the new heir to Ostenweld. This accord opened up the border that traced along the rivers separating Darkwood from Grimizan. While still ruled by the Grimizan Kingdom, Darkwood Keep has been allowed to retain semi-autonomy and is governed by Duchess Elara Darkwood and her son Archduke Roland Darkwood in order to groom Roland into the future ruler of Ostenweld.
Geography
The Darkwood region is dominated by dense forests, bordered by rugged mountains to the north and east, with rivers and the Beory Sea to the west. Within the Beory Sea lies Arbor Island, upon which the city of Arbor is situated.
Localized Phenomena
Legend has it that in the northern forests during the snowy season, the barrier between the Material Plane and the Feywild becomes so delicate that one can hear the fey's whispers on quiet nights.
Climate
In the winter, the northern region of the Darkwood becomes a snow-covered forest with the northern river casting an icy shell providing a crossing for any adventurer brave enough to cross the ice.
Spring comes with the snow runoff from the mountains causing the northern river to nearly triple in width. This combined with the heavy flow makes crossing the river at anywhere that doesn't have a bridge nearly impossible.
Summer brings beautiful scenery and the ability to bask in the sun on the beaches of the Beory sea.
Autumn brings heavy rains and the beginning of the harvest season.
Fauna & Flora
Darkwood boasts a diverse array of game animals. In the fall, hunters flock to the region, seeking either sport or sustenance in preparation for winter. The northernmost reaches of Darkwood Forest serve as a challenging arena for those brave hunters willing to confront the early snowfalls and formidable predators in pursuit of the most coveted trophies.
The eastern forest is also acclaimed for its variety of mushrooms growing deep within.
Natural Resources
The forests of Darkwood naturally supply the majority of the lumber needed for the region and beyond. Meanwhile, Arbor Island is home to the Fey-Touched Forest, renowned for its rapidly growing trees. This island yields exceptional lumber that is in high demand among artisans, architects, shipbuilders, and others.
