Xavier Thomason

Xavier Thomason was born in the village of Birch Harbor on May 9, 2009 (676 MY) to Mark Thomason and Ines Guerin. Widely regarded as a technical genius, he is also noted for his lack of interest in long term projects and a lack of deference. He would be the primary field investigator for the Anatos Mission, and during the First Enmalex War he served as Director of Defense Research and Development until the coup of Sharon Johansson, when he would resign for undisclosed reasons. He now acts as the Special Projects Manager of Thomason Group. In 963 MY it was revealed that he was the father of the Terran Emperor and Hilt Constantius.      

Early Life

Ines would leave immediately after giving birth, leaving Xavier to be raised almost exclusively by his father, though his great-grandfather Victor Thomason would also take an active role in his upbringing. His talent for technology would show early in his life, when he would often take his toys apart and rebuild them, usually to remove safety features or to make them more entertaining. In school he would often jump to correct conclusions but was unable to explain how he did so or to show any work. This would be an ongoing issue during his schooling when he was often accused of cheating.   Often remembered as loud and obnoxious, Xavier would say the first thing that would cross his mind with no thought or care for the consequences. This trait would largely remain with him for his entire life, often discomforting those around him when in formal circumstances. At times he seems to take sadistic delight in getting under the skin of those around him, especially his proper and restrained uncle Andrew Thomason. Gavin Thomason however, finds the utter lack of filter charming and amusing, often enjoying the situations Xavier disturbs.   Leon Thomason was often the victim of Xavier’s teasing as a child, until Victor forced him to wear glasses for a day to see how he was treated. Taking it as a game, Xavier found himself behaving more studiously as Leon did, and from then on he would wear glasses whenever he wanted to concentrate.   Xavier was a popular, rambunctious child that took joy in every new experience. He would purchase his first car when he turned sixteen, a 1965 Chevrolet Bel Air that he is extremely fond of, which he would ultimately collect from Terra before the Enmalex War and store on Mykentia.      

Anatos Mission

During the Anatos Mission Xavier would travel to countless worlds to follow up on reports of local legends that may relate to the Enmalex, or to direct evidence. Many of these investigations would ultimately have far reaching consequences. In 716 MY he would be given a life sentence of hard labor on the world of Draknar for possessing advanced technology, and in 783 he was sentenced to death on the world of Handris for “manifesting as a false deity.” He would unknowingly travel to the Enmalex home world in 804 and explore an abandoned Omnos ship with Mark Thomason in 866. He also claims to have almost been eaten by a dragon on one occasion but refuses to say when or where the incident occurred.   In 885 he would be contracted by Terran Emperor Rauschning II to investigate the Baikonur Incident, and concluded that the star liner Empress Sophia had grossly violated safety protocols resulting in the destruction of the spaceport and the subsequent deaths of thousands. The findings of his investigation would lead to widespread reform of civilian shipping practices and a standardization of procedures by the Galactic Council.   He is also known to have been on Kandix Prime during the Grand Revolution, standing at the side of Grand Prince Erdan as he took power and overthrew the Kandix Matriarchy.      

First Enmalex War

At the start of the First Enmalex War Xavier was aboard Omega, the mobile data processing center of the beacon network. From here he could observe the initial movements of the Enmalex through the data received by the jump beacons. Omega also contained “Block-C,” the emergency contingency plan put in place by Mark and Andrew Thomason, maintaining a copy of all patents and technical specifications for virtually all forms of technology in the Republic. Should it prove impossible to defeat the Enmalex, Xavier was on site to disable the rudimentary AI controls and take the ship to a location beyond the galactic rim, where he would meet up with Mykentia and Defender of Hope. Such a contingency plan proved unnecessary, and Xavier quickly realized that the initial assault forces of the Enmalex were not as technologically advanced as they had feared.   Xavier would escort the command ship Mykentia to the Battle of Mykentia in the opening stages of the war, using his skills for off beacon navigation and a jump transponder to bring reinforcements in response to the emergency beacon. Following the battle, Mark Thomason would appoint Xavier as the Director of Defense Research and Development. Xavier would spend a great deal of his time investigating captured Enmalex debris to try and learn as much information as they could now that they had samples of Enmalex technology in their possession for the first time.   Xavier would also oversee the restoration and modernization of L-666 Lucifer. Utilizing nanotechnology to accelerate construction, he was able to complete the repair and upgrade of the ship in a matter of weeks, rather than the months or years Shipyard Command had initially estimated. Outfitted with the latest weapons and technology, and equipped with a Galatian organic control unit, Lucifer immediately became the most powerful single vessel in the Republic fleet and the flagship of Vice Admiral Sebastien von Ryland.   He would also contract with Thomason Navigation to put the archaic NS-3 navigation system back into limited production, as the system had been developed prior to the widespread deployment of the beacon network, and would allow interstellar travel in areas its signals were jammed. This allowed for a courier system to be developed to maintain communications, and the resulting system would ultimately become standard on all Republic ships.   Realizing that the Enmalex would be able to backtrack signals to pinpoint the location of Omega, Xavier would rescue the ship and bring it to Tychos. During the rescue, the organic control unit of Freyja was destroyed.   Xavier would be among the first to meet Mykentos following his reawakening, and the two immediately formed a close relationship. Eventually they would refer to each other as brothers.   When the beacon system was compromised, Xavier would reluctantly assist Mark Thomason in sabotaging every jump beacon to overload. Xavier would begin to distance himself from his father as a result.   Instead, Xavier would work closely with Admiral Black of Defense Intelligence to analyze data coming from within the occupied territory and anticipate threats. Admiral Black and Feet Admiral Naru of Special Operations would be the first to utilize the new Shadow class guerilla warships, designed entirely by Xavier.   During the political crisis leading to the coup, it would be revealed that Xavier received a large income derived from patents licensed to the various subsidiaries of Thomason Holdings, earning roughly three hundred billion credits per month. He would invest this almost exclusively into defense research, even funding private research groups which stood as rivals to Thomason Holdings.   Xavier would ally with Admiral Black in defending the reputation of Constantius, when it was revealed that the former Hilt and Terran Emperor was Xavier’s son. Admiral Black had long been aware of the parentage and had actually respected Constantius.  

Coup

During the coup of Sharon Johansson, Xavier would be captured and imprisoned in the residence of the Hilt. Johansson had long been enraptured by Xavier and took this opportunity to attempt to seduce him. When he offered to assist in finding those responsible for assassinating the loyal Assembly and State Council, Johansson would ensnare him with a Kandix collar. Xavier would go along with this, convincing her that he was fully under the influence of the collar while taking opportunities to undermine her as he could. He would seemingly provide her with control of the locked out planetary defenses, Johansson only finding that it was a simulation when she attempted to open fire on the loyalist fleet. Xavier would then shoot her in the head with a blaster that had been concealed under the desk of the Hilt.  

Post Coup

Angered by the severe response to the coup, and with Mark claiming the need to assume direct, personal control of all aspects of government, Xavier would follow the advice of Mykentos and search for Knetra’kri, the former capital of the Knetreka sect of the Mykentian people before the Great War. It was the hope of Mykentos that something had survived there that would help him to learn more of their practices so he could reintroduce them into his people’s culture. The investigation would also get Xavier way from events in the capital, should the need for decisive action prove necessary. Discovering the ancient library of the Knetreka still existed under the ruins of the city, Xavier would return to the capital with the news.   Upon returning he would resign as Director of Defense Research and Development, unwilling to continue in Mark’s government. He would state that he had been living at the bidding of Mark and the rest of the family for long enough and wanted to do something for himself. Mark would reveal that he had found a duplicate organic control unit from the same series as Freyja, and Gavin provided the backup data crystal he had taken from the ship prior to its final destruction. In addition, Andrew would hand over documents appointing Xavier as the trustee of his portion of Thomason Holdings, effectively granting Xavier control of the company. Xavier would decide to take up the challenge and reform Thomason Holdings as a private entity.    

Thomason Group

Arriving at the headquarters of Thomason Navigation on Mykentia, which was serving as the corporate headquarters, Xavier would find himself facing his cousin Leon Thomason. Like the rest of the family, Xavier had no idea that Leon was still alive and was forced to accept that Leon was indeed far better suited to the role. During negotiations, Xavier agreed to allow Leon to take the presidency of the new Thomason Group while Xavier resumed his role as Special Projects Manager. In this position, Xavier would act as a troubleshooter, joining various projects that were encountering difficulties and bringing a fresh perspective to break up stagnation.   Xavier would convince Leon to bring the company back to Birch Harbor, in part because the facilities were still largely intact following the Enmalex occupation. His research into Omnos technology would allow for the rediscovery of Omnos power cores and the energy/matter converter. Leon would gain the permission of the Omnos to equip the Mykentian fleet with the technology, though the Omnos warned that the Republic was unprepared for the ferocity of the response their use would provoke.   Xavier would then join Mark aboard Defender of Hope for the Battle of Pergamia, bringing with him the “devastator device.” The weapon would pass through the primary Enmalex wormhole and form a short lived singularity, destroying the entire Enmalex main fleet in a single blow. This, combined with the defeat of the remaining mobile forces at Pergamia, forced the Enmalex to retreat to the Magellanic Clouds and effectively ended the first Enmalex War.    

Personal Life

Xavier is openly bisexual and has had numerous relationships with both genders. On Kandix Prime he was seen to be enjoying the attentions of both Empress Gloriandra and Grand Prince Erdan.    

Constantius

His relationship with Constanta of House Gerard was described as intensely passionate, and he was deeply hurt when it was made clear that the relationship could not be allowed for political reasons. He reluctantly accepted the situation, and would eventually be able to play a part in the life of Constantius, albeit after Constantius accepted exile on Remus. While Constantius was able to accept Xavier privately as his father, he was unable to do so publicly as doing so would threaten his position of neutrality once he became Hilt of the restored Republic. Nonetheless, Xavier would visit Constantius often, and his purchase of the abandoned base in the former city state of Gal was intended to give him a way to slip on and off the planet unobserved.   Xavier would meet the disclosure of his parentage in 963 MY with a mix of anger and relief. Now able to be open about his relationship, he found it insulting to suggest that Constantius had gained his position as Hilt through anything other than his own merits. Indeed, events at the time had proceeded so quickly that Xavier had not even been consulted before the meeting, and only found out about the restoration of the Republic and the election of Constantius as Hilt by seeing it on the news.    

Freyja

Officially “Neural Control Unit 66573,” Freyja is a Galatian organic control unit originally bred for a Galatian light cruiser. Xavier requisitioned the unit in 748 MY to assist him in his assignments with the Anatos Mission and named her “Freyja.” Over time she would develop a personality complimenting that of Xavier, and due to the organic nature of the control units was able to form an emotional attachment. Often jealous of his intimate relations with others, she would keep a carefully detailed log of each encounter, including details of what he had done when she had observed them. Xavier would not fully realize the depth of his attachment to her until her destruction during the rescue of Omega in 961 MY. Xavier would be so despondent that he would instruct Lucifer to annihilate all Enmalex ships within range with maximum firepower. He would later retract this instruction following the bloodbath that ensued.   Mark would do extensive searching of Galatian records and locate Unit 66574, an identical unit which had likewise not been installed after Galatia ceased constructing light cruisers. Installing a backup of Freyja’s core memories, Xavier was able to largely restore her. Following the suggestion of Leon, he would then develop a holographic body for her to project, which she delighted in teasing him with. Using her detailed knowledge of Xavier, she would alter the image between playfully sensual to terrifyingly horrific in order to keep his attention. Following the return to Terra, Leon would construct an avatar for Freyja in the same way he had for his own ship Daeun. Though Republic law does not grant the rights of sentients to the organic control units, Xavier now considers Freyja his wife.
