Habil al Barüt (hɒ bil' ahl bɑ rʊt)
Patron Deity of Merchants and Markets
Very fun-loving and jovial, will always make it a point to try and get those around him to laugh and smile, he will however also make every attempt to buy or sell whatever wares happen to be available or on hand. This is not a compulsion, but whatever he buys at one place, he will sell at another usually a very distant place. He is a master haggler and salesman. Even if brought to combat, his wit is just as sharp and as quick as his jambiya and his primary weapon is to defuse the conflict before it happens with humor and jokes. This, however, belies his skill with the jambiya; he can and will use it with lethal and blinding speed. He is a charmer to all ladies regardless of age; to children, they immediately think of him as a grandfather figure who always shows up with a toy or candy. To the adult women, he will woo and charm them, not to take advantage but to make them feel at ease. It is not uncommon for him to arrive at a party or gathering with two or three under his arms, lavished in jewels, silks, satins, and flowers. Around him is an aura of humor and joy that no one can ignore, it’s hard to be angry with someone that makes you laugh. It is rumored that as a lesson and as a joke, a Queen who tried to outsmart him by selling him a bag of fake gems was not only sold but also paid for 5000 buckets of sand for several thousand gold pieces (the exact amount changes with each telling of the story) but also gave him the real gems as well as the fake ones. She learned from her arrogance and short-sightedness and made it a point from that day forward to never expect anyone to take her at her word simply because of her status and never take anyone for granted based solely on their appearance. Habil will never lie he can and has been known to withhold all the facts unless asked directly.
Various races have taken up different mantles of Habil, why this has happened is not really known but those that have taken it up are strongly devoted to their calling and will defend it fervently.
Half-Orc and Dwarves that follow him have taken up being warrior priests and are guardians of the merchants and their wealth.
Humans, Gnomes, and Elves find themselves being Pathfinders and forging ahead to make new merchant roads
Gnomes and Halflings can be found as priests working at merchant exchange buildings and in trade shops. It is almost guaranteed visitors and patrons who come to these individuals will get a fair deal.
