Gel'n'ven (ɡɛl ɛn' vɛn)

Symbols:

Farmer's hat, farmer carrying a balanced load on his shoulders, bundle of wheat, pick axe, the pyramid of stone or a mountain.

Physical Form Appearance: .When Gel’n’ven is not below earth is always seen in the company of a stone giant, Tonan. He exudes the smell of fresh-tilled earth, his hands are calloused and rough and always dirty. He’s thin and bald, with deep grey colored skin (that of granite), and haunting grey eyes. Gel’n’ven usually wears just a pair of leather breeches, no shoes or shirt.

Personality/Demeanor:

Very private and quiet and finds it easier to talk to the rocks than to other ‘not so tough and lazier’ beings. Gel’n’ven will never strike first, second, or even third, he will appear to be affected by any blow that lands on him, but at some point, he will strike back with an explosive and incredible force not just against those that struck him but anyone within range. There is one feature that will show if he has become angered, and that is instead of his coal-colored eyes they will become diamonds with any light glinting off of them. His reactions to assaults are that of an earthquake or landslide, without warning and with incredible destruction. His attacks are always areas of effect and never individually target a single entity. There is also a chance that he will simply walk away. His voice is a deep baritone, rough and resonating. He is also very slow in making any decisions that he feels are important and anything he feels is not impacting him or his realm, he will usually abstain or just simply not answer, much to the dismay of others within the pantheon.

History/Ascension:

One of the earth elementals that was called by Gel’n’ven was Karlatina in disguise looking for someone to pick up the mantle of all things under the ground.

Notes/Remarks: Some Dwarven sects see him as evil and must be appeased before doing any new mines. Also, they tell their children that if they don’t work hard they will get sent to Gel’n’ven’s mines to work until they repaid their debt to their parents for being lazy.

Farmers have been known to take the first piece harvested fruit/vegetable/grain and bury it in the ground as thanks to Gel’n’ven. It is also customary for those that are devout followers will on the first day of Oxtul’s month have a celebration of thanks for the harvest which included exchanges of harvested items and in some cultures the exchange of rough gems. At the end of the month, there is a contest of who has created the best gem carving. As these are rare and never see the light of day, (no more than 2%) but those that do are of 200%-500% of their original value. Gems are exchanged primarily in the dwarven cultures and those that dwell exclusively underground.

Priests are required to pay respects before climbing any natural hill/mountain over 100' or digging more than 20’. Priest are also forbidden to wear any kind of foot covering over the soles of their feet.

There is talk/rumor of a hand plow not made of metal but of some kind of incredibly hard stone that is supposedly either created by him or for him that allows the handler to plow even the hardest ground as if it were fresh soil. If seeds are sown in the furrows created by this plow the yield of the crop will be twice the normal yield. However, if the plow is used for the same crop in the same place for two seasons consecutively, the crop will completely fail and nothing will grow in that field for a full year.
