General "Government" of the Ozark Region

The best way the Ozark wasteland can be described is an anarcho-capitalist fever dream. There is virtually no policing (with the exception of a few cities, towns and outposts that have some form of law enforcement, though these are scarce and usually not welcomed), and the lands are generally "every man for themselves". Smaller businesses that do not fold into larger caravan systems struggle immensely due to the reliance on a free market. Thus, most bars, general stores, motels, shops, vendors, and even mail outposts are actually subsidiaries of the Route 66 Caravan Company.   The very lax and "live and let live" attitudes of Ozark wastelanders is a double edged sword. On one hand, people can do and be pretty much whoever they want, but the downside is that people can do and be whatever they want. Smaller towns and outposts--especially ones closest to Joplin--are often subject to raiders. Towns that have mayors or leaders often do not help as much as many would like, as any formal governmental body stepping in to resolve conflicts is considered overstepping.
