Dorrelin

Raiser of Fires and Marcher in War

A god of the Elven pantheon and the patron of Blood Elves. As the god pertaining to military pursuits, which most Elves see as beneath them, and of fire, which is dangerous to arboreal life, he is viewed with some misgivings by many, yet is still an essential part of the faith and an agent in the creation of the world. As with all gods, his domain consists of three aspects: a part of the sky (the Great Spire), an element of nature (Fire), and a social principle (War).
  • The Great Spire is a constellation of unusually bright stars, with two particularly noticeable red stars near the top of the formation.
  • Fire is not precious to those who love trees, yet is also an essential ingredient in civilization, and in some areas is still used to keep forests in check. Elves and handle it with great care and the minimal necessary use. They ask Dorrelin to keep the fire safe and let it be used only for good.
  • As the leader in war, Dorrelin is naturally invoked by those who serve in military organizations or are engaged in martial pursuits.

Tenets of Faith

Most orders of Dorrelin are military orders, working within the army, often in high ranks. Their hierarchy is inseparably blended with that of the temporal armies of the Empire. Most soldiers are not members of clergy, for induction requires a particular level of dedication that many, at least among Elves, are unable to muster. In addition to these orders, however, are firekeeping orders, who maintain small numbers in most communities, where they watch over industries that use fire, and are on alert for fire outbreaks in order to fight them. They are the only religious orders who are designed specifically to fight the element they serve.   Prayers to Dorrelin are woven or written onto textiles and burned. This is commonly done before a battle or when an enemy attack or ambush is feared. Burning wood or bark for this purpose is not favored.

Dorrelin is serious-minded and dutiful, but sometimes loses his temper and goes into a rage. In battle, his primary struggle is to maintain his compusure, for if he loses control, it can cause great collateral damage.
