The Citadel
The Citadel is the heart of the Ordo Templaris located on Helska III and houses the council chambers of Council of Seven. It was established during the first Crusade and served as the seat of power and capital of the order throughout history until the end of the third Crusade. It is constructed into a small hill with a large central courtyard that allows for most of the temple to receive natural light. A grand garden was constructed around it giving the whole area a very simple and natural look.
Purpose / Function
The Citadel served as housing for the Pillars of the order and senior Templars. Some lived here permanently others only periodically. It also contains a library and studies for education of younger Templars and Crusaders in both the ways of the force and the history of the order. Although not a center for teaching many students spent at least some of their time here as the Citadel provided a unique proximity to the Pillars who often helped in the education of young members.
It was also here all great gatherings of the order took place and where the Pillars gathered for their meetings. Any major announcements was made here and most war efforts were directed from a small tactical room in the basement of the Citadel.
Beyond that the Citadel served as a symbol of the order and was used for many ceremonies and traditions, more so in the later eras and in time of peace. The Citadel served no purpose by the time of the fourth Crusade as it was lost by then and never claimed by the twin kings.
Architecture
Thee Citadel is a large beautiful structure with a very curved architectural style. It draws it's beauty from it's simple yet elegant design. Much like the rest of the city on Helska III the construction is both functional and sturdy, built to last through the millenia. The room designs are functionable and designed for efficiency whilst still being aesthetically pleasing. Halls were built to hold large crowds for gatherings on the main floor whilst the upper floors held both simple and more advanced housing to cater both to those in need of a temporary residence and those who would live there permanently. The upper floors also held the library and the studies. The tactical and administrative rooms were located in the basement heavily protected in the event of an invasion. On a secret sublevel was also a small council chamber for the council of seven and a gateway to the Architect.
History
Construction began in 10684 TYA not long after the death of Xeph Idiru the first Seeker of the order. Due to war and unrest in the galaxy construction was slow and the grand temple was not completed until 11253 over 500 years later. By then those who had started it's construction was long dead except for the Architect and the Flame who by then had changed into something beyond mortal men. Once the Infinite Empire started to crumble shortly before they were hit by the mysterious plague the order was able to focus less on the war and could start building for the future. Efforts was made to ensure that Helska III would become a large city and safe haven for those caught in the war between dark and light.
For thousand of years the Citadel was used, hosuing hundreds of different Pillars, Templars and foreign diplomats. Only at the last days of the third Crusade was it lost after some unknown event. It was never re-discovered by the twin kings of the fourth Crusade and so the ruins of this structure and the ruins of the city itself has been dormant for a very long time. Recently it was re-discovered by the True Templars who intended to restore it to its former glory but was prevented from claiming it when the Warden went here to meet the Architect.
In the courtyard just outside the Citadel is where the Architect ascended in the company of the Warden. The Citadel has since been left once more.
