Ordo Templaris fourth Crusade

The fourth Crusade, also often called the Last Crusade was different from all the rest in many ways, but the one crucial detail that separated it the most from the previous ages was the corruption of the Dark Side that spread throughout the order and the genocide of everyone who refused to let themselves be corrupted.

Public Agenda

The Twin Kings wanted to be seen as strong and powerful. Their rule was one of fear and oppression. They wanted their followers to understand that the power they held came from sources far beyond time and space. Far beyond the force itself, making them next to gods in the eyes of their followers. In the greater galaxy they were but another group grasping for power in a galactic turmoil and were viewed as nothing more than another warmongering faction trying to expand their territories. The Ordo Templaris had been long forgotten by then, and their new reputation was not good.

History

It had been several years of relative peace in the galaxy between the third and fourth Crusade and so much like before a lot of information was lost in the period. During the assembly of the fourth Crusade however it was not the Architect who called for the Crusade but two young men who had stumbled upon ruins from the second Crusade. Inspired by the symbolism and power of this ancient order they had uncovered they began to study the order and track down what they could find of their history. It was not the first time such ruins had been discovered, but it was the first time someone saw potential to profit on a large scale from it. They found the ancient ruins of Seswenna, untouched for millennia, containing remnant technology and teachings of the Ordo Templaris. It was here they decided to reform the order and take its name to forge their new kingdom. Having learned of the Pillars of the order they elected themselves as the Spear and Shield, the very core of the orders leadership. They would also be known as kings, they made sure it was clear that they were in control and them alone.   On Seswenna they also found something ancient, something from before the Ordo, something locked away by the Architect long ago before the temples were constructed. A being from another universe, something trapped in a shard, something that would change the twins forever. It was this trapped entity that started the corruption in the kings and their closest advisors and would slowly all but doom the order. As the corruption spread so did word of the orders resurgence, drawing the attention of the descendants of the third crusaders. At some point the Twin Kings, and the descendants became aware of each other leading to a series of confrontations and a galaxy wide manhunt after the kings ordered all remnants of the third crusade either turned to their cause or killed.   Shortly after the first confrontation, one which resulted in the death of hundreds of innocent Templar descendants, the Flame was once again awoken by the Architect. The Architect had tried to reach out to the Twins but was too weak himself to affect them in any major way nor step inn to stop them by force. The Flame was needed, yet for the first time the Flame would stand alone unless he could find, rally and save those who still knew the true teachings of the order and carried the old blood in their veins. Having been too late to save anyone the Flame truly was alone and turned to the Architect for guidance for the first time since his existence. It was then the Architect instructed him in where to go and whom to find. The Seeker would return to him from a place far beyond, the true Seeker who could help him set things right and save the order.   The Architect also spoke of the future that was already saved; a prophecy not stopped but changed to allow for a future. The last years of the fourth Crusade are vague and the details confusing. The only thing that is certain is the timeframe, and the fact that the Crusade ended shortly after the death of the Twin Kings and the failed Dosuun invasion. Though the Fourth Crusade was a dark chapter of the orders history, it did leave the future with valuable lessons in the importance of memory and tradition. If too much is forgotten the little that remains can so easily be twisted into something far more sinister than its origin.
