Old Ferrond

The lands from the north coast of the Nyr Dyv to the Yatils and south to the Lortmil Mountains are an old stronghold of Good in the Flanaess. The rich soil and the pleasant climate, combined with healthy trade relations with their neighbours to the east, south and west, make this a strong and wealthy region.

The Velverdyva river valley and the lands around the Nyr Dyv have long been the home of various Flan tribes and nations. in fact, the very first Flan city was constructed somewhere in the Lortmils mountains just south of the Velverdyva and the ancient Flan kingdoms of Sulm and Itar also thrived across what is know called Old Ferrond. By the time of the Great Migrations, these nations had long since crumbled and the land was home to scaterred tribes of Flan, both nomadic herders and agriculturalists, along with several communities of noniz, hobniz, high olves and a few dwur clans. Humanoids too roamed here with many jebli and celbit tribes making their homes in the forests and foothills of the region.

As the great masses of Suel, and then later Oeridian , refugees made their way this far west, many saw these rich fertile lands and ended their migrations here. Most of the Suel ended up migrating further east with some moving to join their kin in the Sheldomar Valley. Three major Oerdian tribes made up the bulk of the newcomers and these assimilated with the local Flan peacefully in most circumstances, avoiding much of the bloodshed their Aerdi and Nehron kin would cause to the east of the Nyr Dyv. The Perron tribe moved to the north somewhat while the Vol and Ferron established themselves centrally.

Euroz and other humanoids came too, always in pursuit of their human quarry. These made life dangerous and so the Flan and Oeridians banded together, sometimes including demi-human allies, and built several walled towns and enclaves.

The folk of the Velverdyva lived prosperously for generations with many small fiefs coming and going over the course of several centuries but by 140 CY, the region had come to the attention of the Great Kingdom. In that year the Overking established the Viceroyalty of Ferrond claiming all lands between the Fals Gap and the Cairn Hills. Dyvers was selected as the provincial capital and the Great Kingdom established garrisons in many pf the cities and towns of the region. They also began improving the local infrastructure, building many roads, bridges and castles. With the advent of the Age of Great Sorrow ij the Great Kingdom, in 240 CY, Aerdy began to withdraw from the region. This only exascerbated an already rebellious feeling toward Rauxes felt by many in the area and with the death of the last Viceroy in 254 CY, matters had come to a head. Stinvri’s son was crowned Thrommel I of the Kingdom of Furyondy in Dyvers and with this act, the Viceroyalty of Ferrond passed into history.

The Kingdom of Furyondy and Archclericy of Veluna dominate this region which also includes the olven nation of Highfolk, the noniz Viscounty of Verbobonc, the so-called Shield Lands, the March of Bissel, along with the Free Cities of Dyvers  and Greyhawk. Finally, the enigmatic Horned Society forms a bastion of evil in this generally good-aligned region of the Flanaess.
