North Point

Northpoint
Northpoint is a small market town in The Serenity Barony, within Kingdom of Alderia that has existed since The Era of Founding and used to be The County of Yarden-The Federation Mandate border.

Demographics

Northpoint’s population numbers roughly 1,200, though the number fluctuates with trade seasons and military patrols fromThe Serenity Barony The majority are Alderians. The town bears the marks of its divided heritage: half of its citizens still profess loyalty to House Varen, while the rest quietly support the Silver Oak Council, which governs in defiance of noble authority.

Government

Northpoint is officially under the dominion of House Varen, but in practice ruled by the Silver Oak Council, a coalition of The Order of The Oak priests and local gang members who seized power during a coup in The 87th Era of Enchantment.   The Council claims moral authority through faith in The Eternal Hero, blending divine rhetoric with pragmatic governance. Decisions are made in the Overseer’s Office, now converted into a council chamber where the Order and The Silver Talon representatives meet behind closed doors.   The law of Alderia holds little sway here, justice depends on who holds the floor and whose faith burns brightest that week.

Defences

Northpoint’s defences are modest but stubborn. Most of the former defences from pre Era of Enchantment were taken down due to poor repair, now all that remains are wooden palisades, towers and sandstone gatehouses from the western and eastern sides of the town.   Fort Northpoint is just south of The small market town and covers one of the few bridges across The Silver River to the rest of The Serenity Barony

Industry & Trade

A modest trade route ties Northpoint to The rest of The Kingdom of Alderia via The Oak Trade Road providing a modest amount of traders and tolls.   Wheat is also grown among with a small hunting and fishing industry from the nearby Silver River and forests.

Guilds and Factions

The Silver Oak Council: The current governing body — a coalition of priests, merchants, and militia captains.   The Order of Oak: Theocratic faction preaching the Eternal Hero’s divinity; controls education, justice, and record-keeping.   The Silver Talon Gang: Once petty criminals, now unofficial enforcers of the Council’s will. Their presence maintains order through fear rather than law.   House Varen Loyalists: Scattered remnants of the old regime, operating covertly from surrounding villages, plotting restoration.

History

Northpoint was a strategic outpost between Alderian and Glaviankin territories Pre Era of Founding. When House Varen inherited the region, Siranos Varen transformed it into a frontier bastion of noble discipline, enforcing high taxes and conscription. His policies alienated the local faithful who worshipped the Eternal Hero.   The Order of Oak, accusing Varen of heresy and tyranny, allied with the Silver Talon Gang, launching the Silver Oak Coup in The 87th Era of Enchantment, a bloodless uprising that drove House Varen’s soldiers back to Serenity. The new Silver Oak Council declared Northpoint an autonomous protectorate under divine law. To House Varen, this remains a stain on their honour; to the people of Northpoint, it is freedom born in defiance.

Points of interest

The Bulwark Inn: Once a border tavern, now a favourite gathering place for travellers, soldiers, and smugglers. Its cellar hides relics of the old Alderian–Glaviankin fort.   The Church of Northpoint: A small oak-roofed sanctuary housing relics of the Eternal Hero. At night, its bell tolls once for each sin confessed that day.   The Overseer’s Office: Administrative seat turned council hall.   Northpoint Prison: Heavy, stone-built structure.   Silver Talon Hideout: Hidden in a nondescript southern house, guarded by coded knocks and watchful eyes.

Architecture

Northpoint’s architecture blends Alderian stonework with Glaviankin practicality. Buildings are squat, weathered, and functional, with deep-pitched roofs and oak-reinforced beams. Windows are narrow for defence; most homes double as workshops or trading stalls. The Church and Overseer’s Office are the only structures of grandeur, both constructed from pale riverstone quarried nearby. Symbols of oak leaves, hammers, and open eyes adorn most doors.
