Mental Police Corp.
Structure
The Mental Police Corporation is an independent quasi-military organization with a police-ranking system based on experience, achievement, and honor. The extreme selection system is so harsh that even officers with 40 years of experience and a kill count higher than persecuted serial killers have not even gone up a rank, and may not do so in their entire lifespan.
The system is organized as follows, from highest to lowest rank:
The system is organized as follows, from highest to lowest rank:
- The High Comissioner: a powerful being in charge of the Corporation, it is the highest military authority of the realm and the only Mental Policeman with the permission of showing a face. Their identity is unknown and kept as a sacred secret like any Mental Policeman. Thee who holds this position is not exempt of going to missions, on the contrary, they are assigned the highest priority targets and objectives, as they are the only one who can guarantee success.
- Superintendents: deputy Policemen who act as the eyes and hands of the High Commissioner. They are commonly assigned specific regions of Mystralis to watch over and execute their assigned tasks, these regions are called superintendencies, and exactly how many or where they are is a secret to the public.
- Servientes: also referred to as "Mental Police Officers", Servientes are the ground troops of the Corporation, assigned with manual and mechanical labor rather than planning and intelligence warfare, like interrogating prisoners via Chained Lamps, guarding places of interest, and escorting VIPs throughout the realm.
- Scrutatores: semi-autonomous Mental Policemen who act by themselves and unbeknownst to their respective Superintendents. These are undercover agents who were supposed to form a hidden network of inspectors that the population didn't even know existed, but President Aegnor later declared that they would be more effective if the population knew of their presence and learned to fear the fact that they could be absolutely anyone, even those who they think they can trust...
Assets
Mental Policemen are known for wearing a special kind of equipment called locally as "Magically Infused Flesh Armor", pieces of equipment made up of the carcasses of those they've killed during their security career. The first part they usually cover is their face with that of another, ensuring the concealment of their identity, then, they continue "building" it for as long as they serve.
This fact is a good way of identifying novice policemen with little experience, because their flesh armor will not cover the entirety of their body thanks to their low kill-count.
What exactly infuses the armor is unknown, but popular rumors say that it gives the Policemen magical resistance and immunity to psychic intervention of any kind, protecting their brain from meddling and their bodies from common spells.
Since most of the powerful living beings in Novarkan Society wield psychic magic as their main source of power, they become easily overpowered by the Mental Policemen and their flesh armor, so they are forced to fear them for as long as they exist.
Moreover, the little few who have survived Mental Police raids, have allegedly seen how their flesh armor comes alive and moves on its own, specially the face, which has been seen changing from their big, permanent, and horrific smile to some other state that inspires fear to any unlucky enough to see it.
History
This organization is said to hold one of the most destructive powers that has ever tainted the plane of Novarkan, a type of energy made specifically to destroy the soul of those who touch it, a flame so powerful that every time someone uses it as a spell, a piece of their soul is gone with it. The scholars call it, Soulfire, a power granted by President Aegnor Narkhanar when he founded this Corporation, and used extensively during his unholy Purge.
Tis a purple flame which crackles with red lightning, and only those capable of using the Novarkan Weave can see it. Any living being, Scelerious or not, is heavily scarred and damaged whenever they come in contact with it, and it is the tool of mass destruction that the Mental Policemen use in their raids and rare tactical warfare.
For as long as President @Sanche has replaced Aegnor, he has tried to strip the Corporation of this power because, whenever they feel like it, it could destroy the entirety of the realm if used correctly, but the organization has grown so powerful and independent of the Monarchy that they would not yield the use of Soulfire under any circumstances, and the Government can't do anything about it.
Not even the King's Guard could safely challenge the power of the Mental Policemen, so, in the end, the choice made was that of keeping the peace and letting them act on their own, for now.
