Minor House Mirrad

"I will lead the House of Mirrad to the very best of my ability. I will guide the Mirrad family to glory. I will protect the subjects of mine. This all I swear!" - Tréor Mirrad
If history happened just a little different, if the founder of House Mirrad arrived just a little sooner in Hallia , then they could have become one of the great houses instead of House Tyrral. But as it stands, Mirrad is no more than a minor landowner, completely beholden to Great House Tyrral, and no noble House ever under Tyrral rule have ever felt safe. These fears are only made worse by the civil strife, that not long ago engulfed all of Hallia.
Whether their suspicions will be right or wrong, one thing is sure: Whoever is left in charge at the end of the war will have to remain vigilant at all times or House Mirrad might be lost forever.

Structure

A minor noble house doesn't have the wealth of the high nobility, thus their house structure is much simpler. At the head of the organization sits the head of the house, often a lord but can also be a lady. The head doesn't have an official council under them, they can freely ask other family or house members for help, or do everything completely on their own. Below the head are the other family members, who take care of various house businesses. They are helped by specialised house enforcers, like military leaders, accountants and treasurers.   Below the noble family are the common house enforcers and other members. They range from mercenaries and soldiers to blacksmiths, stablemasters and other craftsmen. Even below them are the peasents and servants who are not officially members of the house.

Culture

House Mirrad had not existed for long, and in that time they haven't achieved anything noteworthy. Thus the main driving force behind their actions is to carve out a piece of Hallia for their own. So far their attempts at power was nothing out of the ordinary. Land claims, fighting in the civil war for gains, startegic marriages, etc. But they weren't threathened either. Who knows what would happen, if push comes to shove?

Public Agenda

Publicly House Mirrad is a loyal vassal to House Tyrral. They support Tyrral's side in the civil war and Martin Riak's claim to the throne. And while it's true that Mirrad supports the alliance between the new houses against the founders, they also strive for independence from House Tyrral.

Assets

House Mirrad owns a large forest and little farmlands. They are self sufficient in agricultural products, but they have to import metals from other nobles. Mirrad also owns a small quarry, enough for their own settlements.

History

Of the farumens, who left their homes to make a new life in Hallia, most were outlaws or low ranking nobility. Until the farumen Grand House Mirrad sent some of their members to build an outpost for their family there. The people sent there were inexperienced and often were taken advantage of by various parties on the long road south, causing most of their delay. By the time they crossed the Deadland, most of their wealth was gone and many of their servants either died or left them. Even still Great House Missar - the royal house at the time - welcomed them in the kingdom.   They were given land in the far south where House Tyrral was already holding power. Mirrad had to swear fealty to Tyrral to be allowed to settle. No lord of Mirrad could ever fully accept this. And it doesn't help that this "alliance" was costly to all who served Tyrral during the civil war. Many of Mirrad's soldiers and mercenaries fell in the fighting not to mention the cost of raising and feeding an army in the first place.   When the war was over, the house was in shambles and the last male heir of the family, Tréor, had to take over the leadership from his father, who went missing during the war.

Foreign Relations

House Mirrad has good relations with many of the minor nobles in the south. These minor nobles doesn't have enough resources on their own to prosper so ther alliances are important to them.   Their uneasy alliance to House Tyrral continues to endure, since they have no choice. At least the tax rates are not unreasonable.
