Pompon
Government
Pompon comprises a small central village and a handful of outlying farms. A village elder settles disputes and performs ceremonies, but Pompon resides on unclaimed lands; the small village is removed from the taxes and politics of the world around it.
Defences
Pompon relied on the Postknights for protection for many years. Today, that job falls to any villager with any amount of martial or magical ability.
Industry & Trade
Pompon is too small to significantly participate in larger industries, but it used to be a common stopover for travelling merchants. The village is generally self-sufficient, though it has felt the loss of regular ore shipments and crafted goods.
Infrastructure
Postknights once maintained narrow dirt roads between the farms and the village, but in their absence those roads have deteriorated to little more than game trails.
History
Pompon was founded by an old forest witch who only wanted to be left alone. Fearing for her safety, her niblings settled near enough to be with her in emergencies. Over time, their families grew and travellers stayed. Pompon grew and the forest witch felt safe; as long as folks left her to her own devices she had no issue.
After the witch died, her family turned her home into a wildlife sanctuary, largely because the animals of the forest came to mourn her in droves. Today, the villagers share the responsibility of maintaining the small cottage and protecting the creatures inside from outside influence.
Architecture
The witch's family built wood and mortar homes with thatched roofs. The style has mostly remained, though the occasional stone cottage or turfed roof can be seen among the others.
Geography
The Grenzgebiet cover the coastal grasslands west of the Silverbell Wilds and the foothills north of the Bäckerback Mountains. The village proper sits in a small valley and the outlying farms reside on terraces closer to the mountains.
Natural Resources
Fish, game, and forageable foods are plentiful in the region. Wooded areas provide more than enough lumber for Pompon and the foothills are full of useable quarries.
