Psriikan Choreographed Constellation
Founded by the Psriikan in Standard Year 32 B.C.E. by the Arbiters' reckoning, the Psriikan Choreographed Constellation had one goal in mind: Seize the cosmos.
Existence on Psriika was hard because of the inconsistent seasons and dramatic shifts in temperature, but the Psriikans' long study of the stars gave them an advantage in their efforts to found offworld settlements.
In spite of being a couple thousand years younger than the other species of the cluster, the Psriikan had expanded through their home system and developed FTL travel by just Standard Year 9 A.C.E.
Structure
Their society is strictly hierarchical, with each tribe featuring several classes, starting with the workers, then the warriors, the artisans, the military officers, and finally the priesthood, which has now been replaced by the civil authorities, who rank evenly with military officers, although they are often regarded lower.
Each tribe (or, in the case of a particularly large tribe, each city) was ruled by the head priest, elected from among his peers, aided and protected by the head warrior.
Larger tribes and nations were ruled similarly, with a council formed of the leaders of each city, whose priests would choose a leader from amongst their number and whose officers would choose a leader from amongst their number based on seniority, barring an exceptionally rare vote of no-confidence.
When the Psriikan Choreographed Constellation was formed by a pact between the largest nations, their individual autonomy extended only so far as they were separate administrative zones. All were subject to the ruling council, now formed by the chief elected civilian leaders and military leaders of each old nation, balancing the elected aristocracy of the civilian leaders (who replaced the priesthood class) with the meritocratic ascension of the military.
Every twenty years, this council—now known as The National Constellation—elects a new pair of rulers via the ancient method. The ruler titles translate into Arbiter as "Sun King" and "Companion," with the "Companion" typically being the chosen civil authority, although alternative arrangements have been known.
Culture
Because of their homeworld's harsh conditions, authority and martial strength are highly valued, and food is a valuable commodity.
The offer of a meal is not something taken lightly, even in more affluent eras, and is a sign of respect. The phrase "worth his meat" is a common evaluation of a person's character, as meat was the most valued and sought-after food. Someone considered not worth his meat is usually widely reviled as useless to the community.
Dance is a cultural obsession, nearly universal among its many cultures, with a long tradition going back millennia. The ancient "star-dances" are still widely practiced, especially on the capital world, but after cultural dilution and divergence in the colonies and among younger generations, the traditional practice has been largely supplanted in many locales with other sorts of dance, although the urge to move one's body in swift, rythmic fashion has never been totally supplanted except in certain circles of rebellious adolescents who steadfastly refuse to dance.
The Historical Preservation Council was founded in 130 A.C.E. upon the settlement of the second colony world in an attempt to preserve not only the mass-evacuated cities, but the culture as well, fearing that a disconnection from the homeworld would disconnect many from their history and culture.
Demography and Population
The Psriikan Choreographed Constellation claims approximately 57 billion citizens across its homeworld and colonies, 70% of which are Psriikan. Another 11% are Arbiter, [demographic breakdown of remaining 19%]. [Editor's note: This needs to be reassessed and adjusted.]
Foreign Relations
The Psriikan Choreographed Constellation has a formal diplomatic corps and tries to forge strong ties with its neighbors and other nations, but maintains a strong military should such relations break down and is only willing to go so far to maintain or create positive relations.
