Velethios Burnblood
Velethios Burnblood, previously known as Velethios Belakos, was the first Emperor of Aethenium following his massacre of the Second Aetheni Council. Velethios was the son of Perikas Belakos, who was a renown general in his own right.
The Naming of the Conqueror
Following the War of Talons, in which Velethios was instrumental, he returned from Keremgullari in the guise of a returning hero. The great city welcomed him during the most sacred event in Aetheni culture, the Festival of Ashes, and named him Τίμιος, honoured of the Stormbringer. Velethios paid little heed to the festivities, though participated in his ascendance. Following the end of the festival and his naming, Velethios called an emergency meeting of the Aetheni Council. All but two of the councilors attended the meeting, among them Dimitrios Melakis, Ἀγάπη τοῦ δήμου, the favoured councilor of the people. Velethios proceeded to massacre the council to the man, burn the senate to the ground, and present the head of Melakis to his family. With the assistance of his loyal battalions Velethios quelled the uproar in the city and, in front of the masses of Aethenia, declared himself Emperor of Aethenium and of the Mehdian States.
Following his massacre, and to secure his own power in the eyes of the nobility, Velethios intertwined his bloodline with two other prominent families winthin the Aethni council, that being the Soleis and the Melakis'. He himself would wed his long time confidant Mavara Soleis and bid his brother Mihail Belakos to marry the widow of the slain Dimitiros Melakis.
