Order of Saint Margeta

The Order of Saint Margeta is an independent order of Eoni (Peoni) with temples located in the City States of Trikal, Stoval, Assina, and Paolic on the Kachya Island in the Kajerian League. It is unusual in allowing both genders. Like many independent Peonian orders, their practices and beliefs sometimes border on heresy.

The Order is named after Margaret of Trikal, the celebrated, sainted healer, who performed miracles when the Red Death ravaged Karejia between 553 and 563 TR. Her disciples founded it after she died in 566 TR.

Margeta of Trikal was a renowned healer who saved many lives during the darkest days of the Red Death. This deadly plague killed millions in western Lythia and caused much political and economic upheaval. Saint Margeta performed blessings and selflessly tended to the sick, bathing them in an alleged magical healing pond located in an underground grotto. Unfortunately, the grotto's location has since been lost after an earthquake struck the city in 635TR. Sadly, the good, pious Margeta, who led both male and female priests, was so dedicated that she worked herself to an early grave. She was canonized after several miracles were attributed to her.

The Order has major temples in the Cities of Trikal and Stoval. Small churches are located in the towns of Assina and Paolic, and shrines to Saint Margaret are found throughout Kachya Island. All temples have a loose structure, and there is little in the way of a central authority, although the much-respected Pelnala (High Priest) Father Alcon, of the City of Trikal, is the most influential and de facto Order Grandmaster.

The priests and priestesses of the Order prepare miniature paintings of Saint Margeta, usually near a waterfall or healing the poor. These are sold or given away to those in need to protect against evil spirits, bring good fortune, and promote healing. These icons are found in many dwellings of the poor on Kachya Island and over sick beds.
