Mass Correction Machine

The Mass Correction Machine, often known as either the MCM, was a created by the Ministry of Joy(1961) to "automate" the marmalisation and correction process.

Utility

The MCM was used as a method to automate the correction process, saving time and money and allowing for more people to be treated.

Social Impact

During the first year or so of operation, the MCM increased the speed at which the Ministry of Joy could treat their patients. However, the patients treated by the machine began to show symptoms that were not seen in those who had been treated in other ways; Patients that had used the MCM showed on average more confusion, aggression, difference in personailty, and significant loss of memory. Patients also often lost skills such as reading, writing, drawing, or speaking, and many found no enjoyment or desire to take part in their old hobbies.
