Lizardfolk

Lizardfolk are a species of humanoid creature with reptilian features. They have sharp teeth, clawed fingers, scaled skin, and eyes with slitted pupils. Lizardfolk can be found in hot humid environments where their scaly bodies wont dry out quickly and they typically avoid dry climates like deserts for this reason. Most lizardfolk live in small tribal communities known as Clutches. Each Clutch is governed by a chieftain and a shaman who counsel each other on the various aspects of leadership. A Clutch's leaders are not often mate paired as the desired traits for each position within the clutch are very different. Chieftains are male members of the Clutch who have proved themselves to be superior hunters and tend to be more impulsive, competitive and reckless. Chieftain succession depends solely on which male member of the tribe can bring back the most impressive kill, though some disputes between rivals are solved in single combat. Shamans, on the other hand, are female lizardfolk who have strong druidic bonds to nature and tend to be more careful and thoughtful. A shaman is chosen at a young age from within the Clutches hatchlings. They look for a youngling who has already began to display an affinity for natural magics and the current Shaman takes them as their apprentice until it is time to pass on the role. A lizardfolk's cold blooded biology is a strong indicator of their equally cold blooded personality. At their core, this species values survival above all else which means that practicality is key and sentiment is non existant. To a Lizardfolk, a comrade who dies becomes a potential source of food which may seem unnecessarily cruel, but considering the environemtnts they find themselves in, which are full of a staggering variety of threats, the cold blooded practicality of the Lizardfolk mind is what is needed to keep them alive. The clinical practiality of the Lizardfolk personality can sometimes make it difficult for other, more emotionally responsive races, to interact with them, but prove yourself useful to a Lizardfolk and you'll find you have a long lasting and trustworthy ally.
