Balmar

Balmar

Balmar is Vega and Khadil's father and J'han's ex-husband. He currently lives and works in Citidel.   Balmar is an intense person with traditionalist views when it comes to family and culture. However, he embraces the change of industry and technology that Glyssians bring. This is a major reason why he and J'han split. After their youngest daughter, Olivia, got very sick with an illness that J'han and other fuhals couldn't cure, Balmar argued to try Glyssian doctors and medicines. Though the Glyssian doctors also could not help her, Balmar blames J'han for Olivia's death.   His relationship with Khan is rough, as Balmar believes that Khan to be an unfilial son. Khan has always had little room for religion and culture, choosing academia as an escape from his rigid family values. This has never sat well with Balmar, as it is Khan's duty to continue the family line. Though it was always clear that Vega would eventually become head of the family, Khan should have been more concerned about starting a family of his own according to Balmar.   Balmar has always favored Vega, for similar reasons that he has a difficult relationship with Khan. Vega is following closely in her mother's footsteps, upholding tradition and continuing the family line. When he chose to leave the family, he wished Vega would come with him, but ultimately decided it was best that she stay with J'han to become a fuhal.
