Elf
The elves are creatures from the East of Merhendiv. They live so long, other species tend to believe they are immortal. They also seem to have an innate connection to hylif far greater than any other creature, although the truth is much more mundane.
In fact, the elves live for so long, they simply have more time to master all kinds of magic, arts, or any other skill.

Relationship Ideals
Elves take a lot of time to emotionnally attach to anything, and in relationships, bonding is very badly recieved before both companions are less than seven thousand years old and have known each other for less than two thousand years. As such, even if it is rare, it is acceptable for siblings to bond together.
The ideal elf couple gives birth to two children, a male and a female. Supposedly, this ensures the species survival while also keeping it from overpopulation. Couples who have less are encouraged to procreate more as quickly as possible and not perceived with a keen eye, while couples who have more are downright rejected.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
Pacifist, profound respect for the living.
Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals
Bonding
Always together, in life and beyond, our journeys now make one.
Always together, sealed by this bond, our hearts now beat as one.
Always together, every second, until passed the last one.
Never apart, no matter the distance, I become you, you become me, for all eternity.
- Traditional closing words of an elven bonding blood oath
Bonding is a very serous elf tradition, similar to human's marriage. Two elves take vows towards each other, and take a magical blood oath. Once the oath has been taken, the bonded elves can never bond or have children with anyone else ever again. If one of them willingly breaks their oath, both elves will die.Children
I have said it for millenia and I will say it again: if we are to survive in these savage lands, amongst those brutal people, we need to do the same thing they do, and produce more than two offsprings by couple.
- Elf chieftain
While these words were pronounced more than five hundred years ago, the elves still disregard third-borns and higher as parasites. Traditionnally, they limited themselves to no more than two children by bonded couple of two elves. This ensured the species survival while at the same time limiting its impact on environment, taking into account their long lifespan. Traditionally, a couple with more than two children is rejected from society along with the additional children. Due to their recent necessity for a growing population, the parents are no longer held responsible and most agree with rejecting even their own excess children.Third-borns
Children born of a couple who already had two or more children are called third-borns. They are regarded as vile and parasitic, and have a magical mark on their forearm visible only by elves, even through clothing and armor.Common Taboos
Sterility, homosexuality, war, infidelity.
History
When they were discovered in Merhediv, the elves first refused to become part of the greater society of kanns and dwarves. Some dwarves then exploited the grey area of law to hunt down elves, which precipitated the latter's entry into the the council of Four (long before it was called that way).
Ever since that time, they have spread throughout Daelon and the rest of the continent and have become much more common. Typically, the elves outside of Effelon tend to be younger, often being aged of less than two thousand years, most of them being even younger than five hundred.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Elves have a bad opinion of humans, dwarves and orcs, considering them to be barbarians. Their views on kanns however, is very surprising. They are quite found of the small green creatures, despite their little interest for nature. Kanns and elves are polar opposites, yet they mysteriously truly like and respect each other.
