Desert of Onrakh
The arid and nigh inhospitable Desert of Onrakh is considered holy ground by most who do not live there, and is widely avoided for stories of scorpion people, sandstorms that cover the entire desert, and warring nomads that attack all outsiders. Like most stories, there are only kernels of truth in these stories.
The desert is home some scorpion-folk called Tlincalli, there are vicious sandstorms, and there are nomads that fight like animals against any who threaten them. However, the Tlincalli are not native to the sands of Hitram's great desert, the sandstorms never cover the whole desert, and the nomadic Mokari are friendly to outsider and are usually warring against the Tlincalli who try to enslave them.
Geography
The vast desert is home to mountain sized dune, ruins that sink into the sand by feet every year, and lost civilizations from eons ago. The ever changing landscape is difficult to traverse for all but the most seasoned of explorers or those who have lived in the desert all their lives. However, the land closer to the sea is very fertile and tales of a vast oasis in the desert still draws people to explore the lands regardless.
Ecosystem
Creatures that live here have to be tough and used to the heat, Purple Worms dig through the cooler layers of the desert sands and only surface at dawn and dusk to hunt for prey. Hyenas and jackals roam the northern edges of the desert closer to the mountainous Schism, while snakes and smaller deadly creatures stalk the dunes themselves closer to the desert's heart. But there is no telling what else may live there, especially in the Oasis of Onrakh.
Natural Resources
There are few natural resources and most must take what they can find to survive in the desert. However, on the coast there is some rare fertile land and the Oasis of Onrakh that can provide much needed resources if the druids of the Oasis can be persuaded.
History
The Desert of Onrakh was once a great and lush jungle that housed the first kingdoms of man, elf, and dwarves. While they were neighbored by other races, these three lived next to each other peacefully. The one thing that overshadowed all else however, was the first human kingdom of Mokar, a kingdom of heroes and glory that put all others to shame. This drew such envy that their once kind neighbors turned against them. Whether it through outright assault, subtle magic, or feigning ignorance to their struggles, the once glorious Mokar began to crumble year by year. The Mokari people cried out to any god who could or would answer to end the attack on Mokar, and the one god that answered was the god Tarram, god of calamity and destruction and chief god of the Tempest.
In response to their cries he created his finest creation, the Tarrasque, and dropped it directly on top of Mokar. The following destruction ended the attack on Mokar and as well ended the kingdoms of elves and dwarves and all other nearby civilizations. The destruction also turned the jungle into the desert it is now, and the Tarrasque's raging continued until the chief god of Nature, Onrakh, sent the beast into an eternal slumber. Since then, all races spread out across the world, and the Age of Dispersion began. This single event would lead to the many subraces found in Lusamiel today.
Tourism
The intrepid adventurers that flock to the desert that seek fame and fortune or the scholar who seek the lost relics of the past all will most likely stay in the City of Tents, Melkine. There they can be taken care of by the friendly Mokari and enjoy the local people before venturing into the desert itself.
