The Mending of Tacton
When the party first discovered the slumbering Warforged known as Tacton, they entrusted his still form to the safety of their Bugbear allies at the Keep of Adamant. But simply leaving him there, broken and dormant, was never an option.
To awaken Tacton would be no small feat—but if successful, it could yield immeasurable rewards. A Warforged of ancient origin, he might hold forgotten knowledge… and, if willing, become a powerful ally in the battles to come. The party was prepared to let him choose his own path after his revival, but first, they had to bring him back.
The first clue came from Lady Aenysiel, who revealed that a soul gem—the arcane core used in the creation of Warforged—was essential for revival. Tacton already had a core, though its light flickered dimly. The Skaven, who had briefly studied it before the group escaped their clutches, were optimistic that it could still be restored.
Having barely survived their harrowing escape from the Skaven and a Mind Flayer encounter, the party decided to inform Fendan and Lothric in Cyrill. Perhaps they could even provide insight or point them toward someone with the right expertise.
Lothric, a devout admirer of the legends surrounding Tacton, was immediately intrigued. The idea of meeting Tacton in person thrilled him—but first, they had to find a way to repair him.
That path led to a name: Alban Farrow.
Though not a wizard by conventional standards, Alban was known for his work with golems. To him, golem-making wasn’t an academic pursuit—it was an art. He lived far from major cities, shunned by the more traditional arcane circles. His reclusive nature and independence from Illumé’s magical hierarchy made him a trustworthy candidate in the party’s eyes.
After navigating a series of riddles and challenges to gain an audience, they finally met Alban. He agreed that if they didn't want any help from Illumé, he was the right person to ask. Warforged, he explained, were far more complex than golems, them being a more simplified version. The inner workings of their design were closely guarded by Illumé's elite. Alban could not guarantee success—but he was honored to even try.
For him, the opportunity to study Tacton was worth more than gold.
Mind, ever cautious, remained wary of Alban’s true intentions. But the rest of the group agreed to bring him to the Keep of Adamant, where he and Drajag could begin their work.
Recent Events and Updates
Time passed. While the party navigated the politics and dangers of Illumé, repairs continued. When they checked in again with Grim, Drajag, and Alban, progress had clearly been made. Tacton’s body was fully reassembled. His limbs could move. But the enchantments at the heart of his core still eluded them. The breakthrough remained just out of reach. That’s when Mind proposed a plan. He would travel to Thalaniel, scan the laboratory and Tacton’s current state with his arcane senses, and then return to Illumé with Alban. There, he would use illusion magic to replicate the workspace—and show the projection to Dirgle Shimmerforge, one of the few individuals who might understand the mechanisms behind a Warforged core. With no better options, the party agreed. Mind stepped into the magic circle once again, returning to the Keep of Adamant. And the race to awaken a legend continued.
