Geprost Kingdom

A kingdom in the eastern part of Exokkos. The Geprost Kingdom was formed 500 years ago when the smaller kingdom of Tenissa was merged with the northernmost province of the Kratiros Empire to form a new nation.  

Government System

Executive

Geprost is a kingdom, and as such is ruled by a king or queen. The Geprosi royal family is a cadet branch of the imperial bloodline of Kratiros. History records that Sakis, the first king of the Geprost Kingdom was the third son of one of the Protos Archontiras of Kratiros. As in that empire, the power of the king is absolute, and his word is law.   A council of specialised roles supports the king in the running of the kingdom, each seat on the council being assigned oversight of a particular aspect of the king’s business such as the councillor in charge of finance, the councillor in charge of laws, the councillor for war and so on. The precise membership of this council fluctuates according to the needs of the kingdom, but has never numbered less than eight individuals. Roles with a high degree of constancy are: the Finance Councillor, the Justice Councillor, the War Councillor, the Agriculture Councillor, the Naval Councillor and the Hidden Councillor.   Below the king and his direct advisors are the country’s nobles: important individuals granted power by the royal family. In general, the nobles are provided with ownership of land and the responsibility to manage that land productively enough to pay the royal taxes.  

Judiciary

Judges are appointed by the Justice Councillor and are typically assigned to a particular region of the kingdom. They typically hold court in the urban centre of their region for half the year and spend the other half travelling to the smaller townships and villages of the region to hold dispense justice in those outlying regions as they find that it is needed.  

Legislature

Legislative powers in the Geprost Kingdom rest with the king rather than with a separate legislative body. Proposals for new laws, however, can come from many sources such as the advice of the council, the petitions of nobles or even pressures from powerful foreigners connected to the kingdom.  

Currency

Thanks to their Kratiran roots, the Geprosi run a similar currency system. Their equivalent to the prytas is called the strymon, and is similar to the prytas in shape and size, but its faces are stamped with Geprosi emblems rather than Kratiran ones.   For smaller, day to day, transactions the Geprosi use a simple disc of obsidian that is about half an inch across that they call a strymonti. One strymonti is typically enough to purchase a meal composed of a staple such as bread or rice and sundry vegetables to accompany it.
