Java

Java was a nation in the archipelago of East Indies. It was greatly influenced by the government of the Empire of Japan before independence.

History

Due to the terms of the treaty ending the The Great War, Japan was forbidden from occupying the nation due to being on the losing side, and instead began to establish a puppet regime. The idea to keep the archipelago separate was an act by Japan itself in order to make the region more manageable. Java came under the rule of the Yogyakarta Sultanate.

Following the Russo-German War, the Sultanate of Java agreed to sign the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, though to a great amount of coercion from Japan.

When Japan attacked the Kingdom of America during the Battle of Guam, Java was compelled to enter the war on the side of Japan. However, much like Hawaii, Javan officials were reluctant to enter a war as aggressors. This was compounded as American, German, and even Australian news outlets highlighted the enduring harshness of the common Javan person, an issue that was suppressed by Japan.

Java would eventually break away from their treaty with Japan, cutting off the Japanese military of vital oil supply. Notable members of the Javan government, including Fransiskus Xaverius Soeprijadi, became national heroes. This resistance became a rallying cry across much of the East Indies, who began to see Japan as a mere extension of colonial rule.

Disbandment

During the World War, the Javan Sultan met with Archduke Thomas von Lexington, serving as a Colonel in the Marine Corps, in order to negotiate cooperation. Though military commanders such as Douglas MacArthur wished to see Java and the former Dutch East Indies come back under western guidance, Thomas managed to strike a deal. Java, as the strongest of the East Indies nations, would join the Americans and Germans against Japan, and in exchange would be allowed control over the rest of the region as the Javan Empire.
