Papua
Papua was a nation in the archipelago of East Indies. It was greatly influenced by the government of the Empire of Japan. It bordered the colony of East Papua under the control of the German Empire.
Culture
The culture of West Papua is much like that of East Papua under control of Germany on the island of New Guinea. As such, there have been calls from nationalists to expand the territory to create a national Papuan nation. These calls come mainly from anti-colonial parties seeking to rid Asia from European influence.
History
Due to the terms of the treaty ending the The Great War, Japan was forbidden from occupying the nation due to being on the losing side, and instead began to establish a puppet regime. The idea to keep the archapelago seperate was an act by Japan itself in order to make the region more manageable. Papua came under the rule of the Sultanate of Ternate.
Following the Russo-German War, the Sultanate of Papua agreed to sign the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, though to a great amount of coercion from Japan. The German Empire wished to united East and West Papua into a single colony. Thomas, however, argued that allowing Java, who had defected from Japanese influence and invaded Papua from the east, would bring greater stability.
Disbandment
The fall of the Papuan monarchy came during the World War, where Papua became the battleground between the Germans and Americans against the Japanese loyal forces. Java supported the joint war effort and invaded from the west. Germany had vague desires for a united Papuan colony, but it was decided to grant the territory to the new Javan Empire.
