Monarch Lumi Wash (a.k.a. The Apostate)
Fervent Flame-Queller and staunch Northerner, Monarch Lumi is so convinced in their ideas that they resolve to destroy the palace and overthrow Queen Fortune II Doomfall in order to stop her from wasting time in the Kingdom's fight against SEViS.
Their plan is simple: instead of cooperating with the Kingdom's neighbours, the safest course of action is to take from them the resources that the Kingdom lacks. Their eyes are on the fertile Ashmedean crops right beyond the Daggertops.
The efforts to prepare for war prove divisive: the Chiefs of the North feel neglected by the Monarch and start resenting them, due to Lumi's attempt to grow closer to the Barons of the March in the hope of gaining their support. The other regions use the opportunity to start schemes of their own.
But while the Kingdom grows divided, it also finds faith. Work on a colossal cathedral is started in The March, in a bid to call upon the Ninth to rescue the Kingdom in these trying times. Nobles from all regions unite behind the project, inserting subtle references to other faiths in the building itself. Even golems are employed in the construction, proving essential to the timely completion of the cathedral.
The Inquisition, however, is watching. Irate at the intrusion of heretical faiths and practices in the construction of a holy site and enticed by Zylma Nazarine's promised support, High Inquisitor Phoebe leads increasingly bold witch-hunts, riling up the commonfolk. Her true target aren't the heretics though, but Lumi themselves.
The King Consort divorcing provides the perfect opportunity: a mob gets its hands on "the Apostate" and drags them off to be burned alive. As they burn on the stake, they curse the fanatical masses with their last breath, and as they die, more people start burning around them, first of which High Inquisitor Phoebe herself.
A new Affliction descends upon the Kingdom, silencing any prayer with fire.
