Iversh tree

A mysterious tree newly discovered, found underground away from sunlight with crystals of light growing in between its leaves. If seen, do not interact with it nor the flora and fauna living under it, least you obtain its curse and be its next food. If it smells good, run.

Description

The tree has a thick crooked trunk of dark browns that reaches to the ceiling of its home cave before it splits into many branches that crawl the ceiling in all directions. The branches don't usually have "sub-branches" coming out of it and usually keep growing until something forces a stop (like, for example, a rock being on the way).

From the branches, leaves of dark blues and purples grow downwards, as if hanging from a string. In the densest foliage, where the longest leaves are found, crystalline-like objects can be found, lighting up the cave with bright light and warmth.

The sap of the tree has been observed to be warm and softly glowing as well as sticky, quick-drying, and smells horribly —although some people claim it doesn't smell bad and actually finds it pleasant and calming.

Berries

It is still debated what is the actual fruit of the tree. It is believed that the crystalline objects are the tree's berries. Their ability to shine is a perfect method to get animals to get close to it, eat it, and distribute the seeds; but at the same time, the so-called "lamps" are strangely robust and hard to break and whenever it's broken, its smell clings to you and reeks badly. Few people have claimed that the lamps actually smell delicious.

The other option would be small round brown fruits that grow very close to the branches, hidden between the leaves. These would usually be the obvious option, as it fits the description of the berry, but it being so hidden and hard to reach makes the dispersion of the seeds seem too hard for the tree's survival. There has been one observation of bats coming in and out of the tree's branches, which might be the main distributor of seeds.

History

The tree was firstly discovered 13 years ago, by a group of soldiers from Sheoka who, fleeing a battleground, entered the Soufest cave system and got lost in it. They found their way back to their country after two weeks and claimed that they were only able to survive by the sustenance of the tree's lair. Since then, it has been encountered a few more times, but people seem to struggle to find their way back to the tree if they manage to leave the cave system.

The embrace

The tree seems to be a Manasynthetic plant, draining people of their mana whenever they are close to it. The trees look uprooted, as they are often found in a pile of dirty and rocks, with their roots partially discovered. One can find few corpses of small animals at its base and plenty of different small plants cover the ground around the tree, feeding on the corpses and the light of the lamps. Yet, even with such display of death, one can still find plenty of small critters living near the tree, sunbathing from the warm light of the lamps, and sometimes nibbling on the other plants, animals, and/or corpses.

If one consumes or touches the sap of the tree, the berries of the branches, or the sap from a broken/picked lamp, the Iversh' call finds them. Soon after the contact, the tree's lair feels like a nostalgic home, with smells that remind you of better times and a sensation of calmness overwhelms them, wanting nothing but to stay near the tree. If you start feeling so, you have but a split second to start running away or be left lost in the caves.

Ohh this tree sounds so interesting. It feed on them yet some can flee. Is that willful, to insure more potential food will wander into its grasp later. It cannot be easily found, is it even of this world? I like this a lot Cato this is eerie and cool and I enjoyed it a great deal, well written!!
