Epsilon Paladins

The Epsilon Paladins are descendants of Rogal Dorn and are clad in gleaming silver and gold; though they are masters in the art of defensive siege warfare, they roam the galaxy in search of faltering Imperial bastions and those who are in desperate need.   Paladins hold true to their oaths above all else - they are sworn protectors of Humanity and are unyielding in the face of the galaxy’s horrors.   In Real Life

Epsilon Paladins: In Real Life

The Epsilon Paladins are a Space Marine 2 gaming community, previously known as the Epsilon Battalion   Players who identified with all of Dorn's descendant chapters were welcome to join and play in games such as Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and Arma 3 (modded).

History

Pre-Founding - The Last Wall

Origins & Arkhona - 994-999.M41

Archival records trace back the origins of the Epsilon Paladins to a disparate band of Dorn-successor chapters who had coalesced into a single fighting force within the segmentum obscurus, approximately around the date of 994.M41. This unusual arrangement between the Imperial Fists, Black Templars, Crimson Fists and more chapters besides was made out of necessity, for each had dispatched relatively small strike forces that would later be badly mauled during the Arkhona campaign.
As conditions within the milky way galaxy became ever-more tumultuous with the waxing of the great rift, it is believed that the Dorn-descendent chapters fighting together upon Arkhona decided to enact the last wall protocol and unify more formally, becoming the Epsilon Battalion of the last wall protocol.   The Epsilon Battalion would barely survive the events that transpired upon Arkhona, escaping its destruction, before immediately setting out to help stabilize a faltering imperium.

Noctis Aeterna - M42

The Epsilon Battalion conducted numerous campaigns during the noctis aeterna, many of which were successful, but the shame of losing Arkhona to the arch enemy and their inability to assist segmentum solar had renewed questions about the necessity of their existence.

The Avenging Son - M42

Through great sacrifice, the battalion and the Imperium endured long enough to witness the return of the avenging son, Primarch Roboute Guilliman, who through his grand indomitus crusade stabilized the Imperium and dragged mankind back from the brink. As the Era Indomitus began in earnest, the Imperium was finally able to take stock and recover... with the eyes of the Inquisition and adeptus terra becoming ever-more fixed upon the upstart 'legion' of the last wall protocol.

Inquisitorial Interrogation and Censure - M42

An ultimatum was given: stand down and surrender to the inquisition or be declared traitors to the imperium.   Through interrogation, the battalion wass deemed pure in intent and a path of redemption was offered, whereby the astartes of the battalion must accept primaris gene enhancement and reform as a codex compliant chapter.
Yielding to the Inquisition's demands, Epsilon Last Wall Protocol would be broken apart and reformed into a new, codex compliant chapter known as the Epsilon Paladins.

Founding

Paladins of Dorn

The Epsilon Paladins chapter was formed in early M42 under strict adherence to the codex astartes.   Due to the nature of its founding, the vast majority of its battle brothers were hardened veterans, some of whom had fought during the Arkhona Campaign and had undergone the primaris procedure, but this wealth of experience was offset by critically low numbers.   The chapter would spend much of its early years focusing on recruitment and re-training, both in doctrinal warfare, psychological and spiritual conditioning.

Post-Founding - The Epsilon Paladins

Leviathan - M42

The Epsilon Paladins deployed to the galactic east to engage in the fourth Tyrannic war, seeing action on several worlds including Kadaku and Avarax during the Recidious Campaign.

Notable Campaigns

Recidious Campaign - M42

Warzone Recidious

On Kadaku and Avarax, the Epsilon Paladins engaged hive fleet Leviathan alongside the Ultramarines' 2nd company in a number of skirmishes, utilizing small strike teams to great effect against key targets. Amidst the chaos of battle however, a surprise Thousand Sons assault upon Avarax caught the Epsilon Paladins off-guard, revealing an insidious Tzeentchian plot to destabilize strange warp nullification technology deep within the catacombs of nearby Demerium.   While the Ultramarines led a direct assault against the heart of the chaos incursion on Demerium, the Epsilon Paladins continued to persue smaller but equally vital objectives in the aforementioned warzones.   In Real Life

Warzone Recidious: In Real Life

The Epsilon Battalion reformed its identity into the Epsilon Paladins, with a renewed focus upon the video game of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

Wargames with the Marines Malevolant

Space Marine 2 - PvP, Guild vs Guild // 20/07/2025
During a lull in the conflict for the Recidious system, the Epsilon Paladins and Marines Malevolant chapter agreed to conduct training exercises against one another, pitting a single squad against the other in non-lethal, mock combat.   Though the Epsilon Paladins won the day, the exercise proved to be invaluable for both chapters as skills and tactics were shared, strengthening bonds of brotherhood across their vastly different cultures.

Operation Inferno

Space Marine 2 - PvE, Joint Guild Operation // 23/08/2025
As Hive Fleet Leviathan continued its rampage across the Recidious System, the Epsilon Paladins and Blood Angels were summoned by Captain Acheran to execute a surgical strike upon tyranid forces on Kadaku, igniting promethium fields amidst the Tyranid advance while Imperial forces withdrew important assets off world.   In Real Life

Operation Inferno: In Real Life

The Epsilon Battalion organised a joint PvE event alongside the Blood Angels chapter, using mods that increased the game's difficulty and allowed for up to 12-players to play together in co-op.   This joint operation marked the first large scale cooperative event ELWP had organised in Space Marine 2.

As Hive Fleet Leviathan continued its rampage across the Recidious System, Captain Acheran of the 2nd Ultramarines, in desperate need of assistance, called on any Chapters in orbit above Kadaku for assistance.   The noble Epsilon Paladins, and the mighty Blood Angels responded to the call.   On that day, nobility and resolve, paired with grace and fury as the two Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes descended to Kadaku in a coordinated effort to engage and destroy the Tyranid Horde.   Squads of Paladins and Angels moved as a unified wall of silver and red, fighting as one on the surface of the besieged planet. The joint taskforce, surgically executed the Ultramarine plan to ignite the Promethium Fields, and stymie the Hive Fleets advance, giving the Imperial Forces the time needed to withdraw important assets off world.   The Epsilon Paladins and Blood Angels annihilated the endless waves of the Great Devourer together, as an unbreakable and unified force in defense of the Imperium of Man.   On this day of destruction and blood, did the sons of Dorn and Sanguinius honor the legacy of their genesires, delivering righteous fury to Hive Fleet Leviathan in an Inferno of destruction.

Chapter Organisation

The Epsilon Paladins abide by the codex astartes in most of its key aspects, save for some aesthetic, name-based exceptions.

Paladins

The majority of the Epsilon Paladins numbers are comprised standard battle brothers, forming into squads of 5-10 marines, led by a single sergeant. Squads can be further distuingished by their battlefield role, taking the form of tactical squads, heavy support squads and assault squads.   Within the chapter's ranks, all battle brothers refer to each other as paladins.

Veterans

Veterans form the highly experienced core of each battle company, lending their battlefield knowledge to younger battle brothers of the chapter.   A significant proportion of the chapter's veterans served during the Arkhona Campaign.

Sergeants

Sergeants lead squads of battle brothers, relaying orders from Headquaters staff to their squad on the local level. They are highly skilled combatants, both through martial prowess and in tactical accumin.

Oathwardens

Oathwardens are very similar to space marine chaplains in their duties, bolstering the spiritual sanctity of the chapter against corruption, as well as safeguarding the relics of the Epsilon Paladins.

Oathwardens motivate their brothers through a strict adherence to sworn oaths - penning declarations made by each paladin upon treated parchment known as Oathscrolls, which are then affixed to their power armour.   At battle's end, Oathscrolls are assessed by the Oathwarden as having been fulfilled or broken, and it is their sacred duty to conduct the necessary penance for those that are found wanting.

Lorekeepers

Akin to librarians of other space marine chapters, some Battle Brothers display the psychic ability to tap into the power that exudes from the Immaterium itself. When a Paladin who has psychic potential is identified by the Loremaster, that Battle Brother is removed from the Chapters Battle Companies and is inducted into the Chapter Librarius. Through undending study, relentless drilling, and constant practice that Battle Brother hones their ability to tap into the Warp and direct its power towards helping the Chapter on and off the battlefield.

Techmarines

Some Battle Brothers develop an ability to commune with the Machine Spirits inhabiting Imperial Technology. These Paladins are inducted into the Cult Mechanicus and become Chapter Techmarines. The Techmarines help to create, maintain, and fix the supply of machines and wargear that the Epsilon Paladins rely on to wage war in the Machine God's name. When a Battle Brother is identified as having these gifts, they are brought into the Epsilon Forge to serve the Chapter in whatever way the Forgemaster deems fit. Service within the Epsilon Forge is punishing and requires the Chapter Techmarines to have the sturdiest constitution, as well as an unshakable resolve to complete their work in the Omnissiah’s name.

Paladin Exemplar

The Paladin Exemplar is a highly respected rank of honour among the battle brothers of the Epsilon Paladins   By embodying the chapter’s oathbound creed, the Exemplar is bestowed the honour of carrying the chapter’s banner into battle.

Chapter Culture and Beliefs

Oathbound Creed

Deeply ingrained into the psychology of the Epsilon Paladins is a need to seek redemption for past failings, which can be traced back to their distant origins in the Arkhona Campaign.   As a result, the chapter adopted a fixation upon oaths during its initial formation, and has dogmatically persued this focus ever since.   To break an oath is to forsake one's honour, and in the eyes of the paladins, honour is paramount.

The Swearing of Oaths

Prior to each battle, a Paladin may choose to swear an oath before several witnesses of the chapter - such oaths can take many forms and are highly personal to the Paladin in question, but typically these may be vows relating to operation success, martial skill or the slaying of a great foe, to name some examples.   If an Oathwarden is present and time permits, the Oathwarden will pin this oath to the Paladin's armour in the form of a Oathscroll. At battle's end, this Oathscroll is assessed by the aforementioned witnesses who then decide whether the oath has been fulfilled or broken.   If an oath is fulfilled, the Oathwardens of the chapter take note and record the deed within the Tome of Courtain - an ancient book provided to the Paladins during the chapter's formation by the Inquisition as a means of recording their path to redemption.   In Real Life

Swearing of Oaths: In Real Life

The Epsilon Paladins would provide their guild members with unique challenges intended to test each member's skill in Space Marine 2.   One example would be killing a Hive Tyrant single-handedly in the game's PvE co-op mode, while another would be achieving a kill-to-death ratio of at least 2.5+ and at least 10 kills in any PvP multiplayer match during a scheduled deployment.   Whatever the oath may be, these challenges could only be taken once per deployment - and failure to fulfill the oath in the mission in which it was sworn would result in an 'oath broken' token. Success would result in an 'oath fulfilled' token.   At the end of every month, these tokens were counted for all guild members and the member with the highest number of oaths fulfilled would be named the Paladin Exemplar - an honourary rank.

The Knight Champion

When the fates align, a champion rises among the ranks of the Epsilon Paladins, wielding the legendary blade Durandal.   The Knight Champion is considered the chapter’s pre-eminent duelist, many believing that such a figure is ordained by the Emperor himself to smite humanity’s greatest foes.

Chapter Recruitment

Aspirants

The Epsilon Paladins are a fleet-based chapter with the Inquisition ever-watchful of their numbers, and as a result, have endured a grindingly slow recruitment process for aspirants. The chapter routinely seeks to remedy this by negotiating with worlds they assist in operations, requesting batches of prospecting youths to undergo physical and psychological trials.   Historically, the chapter tends to favour aspirants from Feudal and Shrine worlds, placing great importance on aspects such as loyalty, faith and deference for authority. Above all however, the Epsilon Paladins look for an unyielding tenacity that is characteristic of the sons of Rogal Dorn.

Neophytes

Should an aspirant prove worthy, they begin the process of becoming a space marine and are known as a 'Neophyte' during this intermediary period in which they recieve training, genetic manipulation and surgeries.

Full Initiation and the Paladin's Oath

Once a neophyte has recieved all of the necessary surgeries and gene enhancements, they are ready to become a Space Marine. During such an occasion, a ceremony is held with at least one Oathwarden of the chapter present, where the Neophyte is presented a ceremonial sword.   Each neophyte's ceremonial sword is unique, having been sourced from the chapter's deep armouries or hand-crafted by skilled artisans and paladin techmarines. Before those present, the neophyte brandishes the sword aloft and swears the Paladin's Oath - with these final vows spoken, the initiation ritual is complete and the neophyte is declared a paladin battle brother of the chapter.
