The Outcasts of Ang’Verd

Created by Adam Tingley // Wreckerdwarf
Commonly within dwarven society change comes slowly. Each individual relying on the belief that those in charge are masters of their craft and are best placed to guide others. The perfect storm required to create a person who is meticulous enough to diagnose root flaws and who is powerful enough to challenge the status quo is a rarity. In the case of Ang’Verd, there were hundreds grown, almost cultivated, to be defined by these two traits.   Following the overthrowing of the guild and royals of Ang’Verd, the new ruling class of outcasts were in a position to provide a new route forward. Their determination to upend the cycles of greed and exclusion was driven by their collective experiences of oppression and subsequent release from it. Many were young dwarves that had little experience for governance but made up for this tenfold with their impassioned purpose and desire to make a difference.   The outcasts had a passionate distaste for the exclusion of others. Especially those that could provide valuable insights in the continual pursuit of progress. Uniquely, this extended to the other races that dwelled on the surface above them.

A Fundamental Change

Ang’Verd’s close location to the surface made attempts of outreach manageable. The sight of dwarven missionaries and messengers approaching various towns, settlements and hovels above ground was met with skepticism but they pushed through with their attempts regardless.   This was completely new ground for the dwarves. Their social abilities with the other races was flawed and their knowledge of the common tongue was almost exclusively from scriptures reclaimed from the royal quarters. They were quick to pick up the language but were continually reminded of the numerous ways that they had been restricted and held back from their potential. This only fuelled their desire to push further into this new world they had envisioned for all kin.

Ooo, interesting. I am very curious about their attempts at reaching out to others. I imagine their common was a little like someone coming up to you and starting to spout Shakespeare.

That's a very good point! The dwarves would be learning from old texts on a dwarven timespan. Lots of thines, thys and wouldsts.
