The New Ang’Verd Decree

Created by Adam Tingley // Wreckerdwarf

Let it be understood: The time of isolation has passed. No longer will we be bound by the border of our grand city. We open our gates to all dwarfkin and we will spread our new vision to any that will care to listen. We toil together, we bleed together, we prosper together.     Let it be understood: The worth of a life is measured by their deeds, not their lineage. No longer will power be given to those born into power. Strength of character and action will be the deciding factors.     Let it be understood: All dwarfkin lives matter. No longer will any dwarf or dwarfkin be subject to exile, oppression or exclusion if their misdeeds are trivial.     Let it be understood: We will reclaim our true territories. Long have our surrounding regions gone ignored. We will look to extend our tunnels far and wide like our ancestors. We will expand our operations without the need to drive other dwarfkin out.     Together, we will cast the old crowns aside and in their place all dwarfkin will be encouraged to share their voice in matters of carving our path into the future. We will reforge the rules, we will fold them and rework them until the patterns match our goals.   We must be better.   For us, for Ang’Verd, for our loved and lost and yet to be.   We must.

-Dictated by The Maven of the City of Ang’Verd to the people’s counsel.
The decree was laid out following the series of events that resulted in the abolishment of the royal family and the rejection of the powerful guilds of Ang’Verd.   Given by members of the council with The Maven present at a display in the royal quarter and shortly followed by their changes and amendments to the pre-existing Outcasting Proclamation.

Reception

Many of the citizens of the city had experienced ebbs and flows but were acutely aware that the city had barely changed since its founding. It had been remarkably stable up until the population boom of thirty years prior. It was accepted that the old systems were not able to cope with these new challenges and another, far more progressive system was desperately needed. Whether that would be the one they called The Maven or some other group, that would remain to be seen.   As with all change, the new decrees and subsequent laws were met with a level of scepticism. In order to handle the queries, fears and hopes of all, regular forums were established that would further help to progress the goals of the people.

Honestly a nice manifesto, though I wonder how/if it will work out in practice.

At the very least, it will be a big change to the status quo!
