The Maven

A Maven - One who embodies expertise and knowledge.

 

The Current Custodian

  The title given to the head of the dwarven people’s state of New Ang’Verd. The first and only adoptee of this title that resides in a position of power is Bryn’Dyr of the outcasts. Gifted to her for her actions in leading the coup to purge the greed from the old city.   It was given to her by the people that she led but also by those that she replaced in equal measure. Used in both praise and distaste; Praise by those that she led and whose lives she had bettered, distaste by those that disagreed with her sometimes blunt, tradition-breaking methods.   Her influence, whether well received or not, was an astounding change for the denizens of Ang’Verd. A new path was to be carved into the future that diverted away from traditional norms.    

Ceremony

  Many ideas for ceremonies were put forward for the giving of the title of Maven. Many were purposefully made to be a mockery of the royal family that followed prior to the new role. Parades, grand feasts and gift giving were all suggested in jest. The notion of celebrating the course of events that lead to the necessity to replace an existing power structure seemed painfully vain. In time, however, to fuel the flames of irony, small gifts were given on the anniversary of the day that the city was reclaimed for its people.    

Previous Uses of the Title

  A number of experts and artisans have also historically had the title of maven bestowed upon them. Although, all other recorded uses of the term were sincere and regarded as fully substantiated.   Most commonly, it had been given to those that saw success within cutting edge technological fields. One such recipient was named Klloy’Ead who was responsible for the creation and dispersal of ale engines.
