Character Creation

in Basic Rules

Step 1: Generate Attributes

in this step you generate the attributes for your character. there are several methods.

Dice Roll Method

Challenging

roll 3d6 nine times and record the results in order: Strength, Agility, Dexterity, Memory, Insight, Perception, Faith, Charm, and Composure. this produces average characters.

Standard

roll 3d8 a total of nine times and arrange the results as you please between the nine attributes of Strength, Agility, Dexterity, Memory, Insight, Perception, Faith, Charm, and Composure. this typically produces above-average attributes characters, appropriate for adventure heroes.

High-Powered

roll 4d8 and reroll any 1s. sum the highest three. do this a total of nine times and arrange the results as you please between the nine attributes as above. this produces high-powered characters.

Point Buy Method

each attribute starts at 3, and you have a number of points to spend on increasing your attributes. the cost for each attribute is shown below:

4 = 1 point

5 = 2 points

6 = 3 points

7 = 4 points

8 = 5 points

9 = 6 points

10 = 7 points

11 = 8 points

12 = 9 points

13 = 10 points

14 = 11 points

15 = 12 points

16 = 14 points

17 = 16 points

18 = 18 points.

19 = 21 points

20 = 24 points

21 = 27 points

22 = 31 points

23 = 35 points

24 = 39 points

High-Powered

120 points

15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7.

Standard

20, 17, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 8, 7.

High-Powered

Step 2: Choose Ancestry

the next step is to choose your ancestry and apply your ancestral traits.

Step 3: Choose Culture

the third step is to choose your culture and apply your cultural traits.

Step 4: Choose Background

the fourth step is to choose your background and apply the benefits of your background, including any starting equipment it provides.

Step 5: choose Class

the fifth step is to choose your class and apply it's benefits, including spending skill points and selecting proficiencies.

Step 6: choose Talent

the sixth step is to choose your 1st level talent. alternatively you may forgo this talent to instead increase one of your attributes by 1.

Step 7: choose starting gear

you may choose to begin play with starting equipment based on your class, or you can instead have a starting amount of money based on your class and spend it on starting equipment.

Step 8: determine other details

your character will have a physical appearance, height and weight, an alignment, perhaps a backstory, personal relationships, and so on.
