each character must choose a Background at character creation. this Background represents the skills and occupation the character had before the start of the game. a character's Background grants the character 4 additional Skill Points, adds two to four skills (or more in the case of the Soldier background) to the character's list of Class Skills for all classes they have, and provides the character with a set of starting gear.
