Domesticated Otter
Domesticated otters are otters that have been selectively bred for their relationship with humanoids. These otters are often kept as working animals or even as pets.
While training otters to help fish is a real-world practice, cultures in Halika have invested far more effort and resources into fully domesticating otters. Specifically, Selkies have historically bred and kept otters going back to the early Divine Era and have since used their Selkie Pelts to commune with and manage their otter pets. Over the centuries, selkie sea nomads have perfected otter training and use aboard their roaming ships. Domesticated otters help gather fish and shellfish, gather useful kelp and items, and can even aid in ship repairs and navigation.
