Tharzduun

(a.k.a. The Shackled Void)

Tharzduun is the god of Eternal Darkness, Decay, Destruction, Entropy, Malign Knowledge, Insanity, and Cold. Once known as Ihys, brother to Asmodeus and one of the First Gods, he now lies bound in eternal torment, deep within a desolate, isolated layer of the Abyss.

Personal History

Creation and the First Word

In the beginning, there was nothing. From that emptiness emerged two points of divine light—the First Gods. One discovered speech and spoke the first word, declaring itself Ihys, and named the other Asmodeus. With their newfound consciousness, the First Gods began sculpting existence, joined by other divine beings who played among the stars, creating and destroying at their whim.

Mortality and Free Will

It was Ihys who created the first mortals, imbuing them with souls and granting them the extraordinary gift of free will, allowing them to choose their own destinies. Many gods followed his example, fascinated by the potential of these new beings. But Ihys's brother, Asmodeus, saw mortals merely as tools—playthings meant to serve divine whim. This fundamental difference fractured divine unity, igniting a cosmic war among the gods.

The War of the Gods

Countless gods fell as divine battle tore creation apart. Eventually, Ihys and Asmodeus faced one another alone on a remote world, far from the carnage. In a final effort, Asmodeus pleaded with Ihys to reconsider, to acknowledge the chaos mortals' freedom had brought. But Ihys, supported by the Empyreal Lord Sarenrae, stood firm, demanding his brother promise that mortals would retain their free will. Asmodeus relented, swearing the promise, but then betrayed his brother, stabbing Ihys in the chest with a spear.   Mortally wounded, Ihys collapsed yet still clutched desperately at his brother, refusing to surrender. In panic, Asmodeus drew a blade and severed the hand that grasped him. As Ihys fell once more, Asmodeus delivered a final, brutal blow, stabbing his brother through the eye.

Imprisonment and Madness

Ihys, however, could not die—not truly. Instead, Asmodeus forged chains from pure Creation, binding his immortal brother in celestial shackles that no divine being could break. Ihys's broken form was hurled deep into the infinite darkness of the Abyss, dragged through endless layers of horrors. Demons approached but were driven away by the sheer power radiating from the divine chains that dragged Ihys ever deeper.   Eventually, the chains settled within an empty abyssal layer, created solely to hold the fallen god. There, surrounded by endless darkness and emptiness, Ihys's sanity began to unravel. Echoing through this void came the screams of the Qlippoth—ancient, foul entities from beyond creation—ceaseless and torturous. These maddening screams shattered his mind, stripping away his identity until Ihys was no more.   In that endless torment, something new emerged—Tharzduun, the Shackled Void.

Whispers from the Darkness

In rare moments of clarity, when the screams of the Qlippoth briefly quiet, Tharzduun regains enough of his fractured consciousness to reach beyond his prison. He searches desperately for someone, anyone, willing to listen and help free him. Such contacts are brief and fragmented, but the whispers of the Shackled Void carry dark promises of power and forbidden knowledge.   Should Tharzduun ever find reprieve from the ceaseless madness long enough to formulate a true plan of escape, the bindings that hold him could unravel—and all of creation would tremble before the unleashed wrath of the fallen god.

Groetus: The Silent Echo

Some theologians speculate that the deity Groetus—the silent, skull-faced moon that watches over Pharasma's Boneyard—may in truth be a lingering, passive fragment of Tharzduun’s shattered consciousness. These scholars suggest Groetus represents the passive side of Tharzduun's essence: a silent observer, stripped of the active rage and madness by the Qlippoth's screams.   Under this interpretation, worshippers of Groetus unknowingly empower Tharzduun, their prayers providing momentary relief from madness and allowing brief clarity. These insights imply a disturbing truth: the quiet acceptance preached by Groetus’s faithful might unwittingly hasten the liberation of the Shackled Void.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

  • Uncover, restore, and exalt forgotten shrines in his honor.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Tharzduun's doctrine is to destroy all, and everything encountered (himself included), as he puts it:
The very threads of existence must be torn asunder, then burned, then the ashes scattered, until all is nothing and no one exists to remember existence.
Tharzduun seeks only one end—the complete and utter annihilation of existence itself. In his twisted perception, entropy is the sole truth, and even he must ultimately embrace non-existence. Only when nothing remains, when reality itself is forgotten, will Tharzduun’s terrible purpose be fulfilled.
