Eye of the Abyss

The Eye of the Abyss was a legendary dark green gemstone once worn by Tharzduun to replace the eye taken by his brother, Asmodeus, during their climactic battle. Inexplicably escaping Tharzduun’s abyssal prison, the Eye found its way to the Material Plane, where it became an irresistible beacon to powerful beings—including dragons and liches—who were inevitably corrupted and driven to madness by its dark, intoxicating magic.   Most recently, the Eye came into the possession of the drow lord Lasdolon, who attempted to use its powers to free Tharzduun from his chains. This effort was thwarted by the cleric Telith Nordhof, who wielded the Claw of Tharzduun, shattering both artifacts. The scattered fragments of both the Eye and the Claw were later collected by the enigmatic K'thir named Orrn.   Myths surrounding the Eye describe formidable powers: it granted its bearer Truesight, as well as the ability to magically alter perceptions, mimicking the effects of Alter Self. More ominously, the Eye maintained a direct connection to Tharzduun, allowing the Chained Oblivion to capture and consume souls. Lasdolon, empowered by the Eye, also exhibited terrifying destructive abilities resembling the spell Implosion, further highlighting the artifact's devastating potential.
