The Long Tongue

The Long Tongue is a low, uneven stretch of moraine extending toward the sea just south of Ubblesfellen, still technically part of the Bahtfall but widely regarded as something apart. The land here remains perpetually damp, its soil slow to drain and its stone slick with moisture even in fair weather. Fog gathers easily and lingers longer than it should, and the Tongue’s ridges seem to stretch and narrow in ways that make distance hard to judge. Travel across it is possible, but uncomfortable, and few choose to linger.

Localized Phenomena

Those who pass through the Long Tongue report a collection of minor, persistent irregularities rather than overt danger. Boots sink more than expected. Tools rust quickly. Firewood smolders instead of catching cleanly. Sound behaves oddly, sometimes carrying too far, sometimes dying immediately. Birds avoid nesting here, and insects appear in uneven, unpredictable bursts. The ground never fully floods, but water pools where it should not and drains away where it should remain.

History

The Long Tongue has never supported lasting settlement. Over the centuries, watch posts, store sheds, and roadways have been attempted, repaired, and quietly abandoned as maintenance costs outpaced their usefulness.
