Rendmort
Rendmort is a city in northeast Gattland and rises along the curving banks of Revelan's Bend, where the river broadens before meeting The Blau Sea. Built atop and between the remnants of ancient fortifications, the city commands a naturally defensible peninsula of high stone, terraced fields, and old river roads. Its elevated position offers sweeping views of the surrounding lowlands, giving Rendmort the quiet confidence of a place that has seen centuries of conflict approach—and often break—upon its walls.
Government
The people of Stolm Rendivar elect or appoint a single Seat to the Kronhaus, and while no law privileges Rendmort in this process, the city’s officer families and administrative guilds have historically shaped the electorate’s preferences. Their long-standing networks of patronage, civic duty, and regional influence mean that Rendmort-backed candidates often ascend to the Seat, though this advantage is no longer absolute.
Locally, governance is handled by the Civic Court of Rendmort, a body composed of senior magistrates, retired officers, and representatives from longstanding administrative guilds. Decisions are made through formal debate, recorded meticulously, and ratified with rituals that stretch back to the early republic. Though respectful of Kralzost’s rising economic significance, the Court views itself as the natural stabilizer of the Stolm—its keeper of continuity amid the shifting tides of war.
History
Long regarded as the political and ceremonial heart of Stolm Rendivar, Rendmort has, for generations, played the role of steward for the Stolm’s civic identity. Its banners, rituals, and public archives lend it a gravity unmatched by any other community in the region.
Yet the last several decades have revealed subtle slippage in Rendmort’s dominance. Its influence remains significant, but no longer automatic: changing trade routes, the rise of maritime power in Kralzost, and the broader instability of the republic have all reshaped political expectations. Rendmort is still respected—deeply—but the certainty of its relevance has faded into a more measured, cautious self-awareness.
Points of interest
The Citadel
Rendmort’s ancient heart, a sprawling complex of walls, towers, and battlements overlooking the Bend. Much of it now houses administrative offices, archives, and ceremonial chambers, though parts remain restricted and rumors persist of sealed armories and antiquated war engines beneath the deepest corridors.
The Old Ramparts
A long stretch of defensive wall running along the southern approach to the city. Weathered but still imposing, the Ramparts are maintained by Pellin Dask, chief engineer, and his apprentices. Portions are closed for structural repair, but the walkable sections provide sweeping views of the river and countryside.
The Bend Markets
Located along the riverfront, these markets bustle with traders, ferrymen, and farmers. More relaxed than Kralzost’s pier maze, the Bend Markets offer a glimpse of everyday life: grain exchanges, smith stalls, tailors, and riverside cafés where officers and workers mingle.
