Eldaran

Eldaran is a massive atol in the Southern Ocean. It is commonly refered to as an island, and occasionally named as a continent, although in truth it lies between these two scales. The great ring of the atol embraces the waters of Elden Bay, a Primeval Wilderness that is home to the gods of Eldaran and also to many wild creatures which contribute to the defence of the domain. It has four distinct regions, each with its own city, towns and farms. Most of the population are Sea Elves, and most of the world's sea elf population call Eldaran either their home, or their home port.   In the latter case, the port in question is Eldaranar, a city of over five million souls, mostly sea elves, sea peoples and visiting sailors and merchants. The largest city in the world, it sprawls along the belly of the atol, successive tiers of wharfs, warehouses, commonplaces residences, manors and palaces climbing up the sides of the highlands towards the precipitous southern cliffs. The great shipyard district of Hishat'anar, at the eastern end of Eldaranar, builds the finest ships in the world, while the west of the city is home to the Oceanic Academy, home and training base for the Eldarani naval and marine forces.   Northlook and Southlook are much more contained cities on the high plateaus of the south and east of Eldaran. Each has a population of about one million, and supports as many again in the surrounding countryside and towns. These cities are the homes of the shore garrisons, Eldaran's protective infantry.   The final city of Eldaran is the Rookery. Like Eldaranar, the Rookery is a sprawling city, occupying the caves in the north-west cliffs. It is home to the Eldarani Airfleet, and a fighting force of drake riders, whose sea drake mounts - actually a strain of blue Dragonnel - aid them in battle.
