Like sparks from an anvil, the dragonnels emerged from the Lightning Forge alongside the Tempest
Dragons. Also known as winged
Drakes, dragonnels are slender-bodied, with long, thin necks and tails, narrow wings with a broad span, and long, strong legs. They are noted for their speed and agility in the air, natural intelligence and for being relatively easy to train as mounts, if reared from the egg. They are demanding companions, however, requiring attention and affection to build a relationship. Wild dragonnels live in 'draws' of five-to-ten adults, including as many as three breeding pairs as well as elders and immature adults, as well as a number of juveniles and hatchlings. Even when domesticated, they retain a high degree of socialisation.
Dragonnels have a wide range of scale colours. Wild dragonnels are classified as purple, grey, brown, tan or yellow, each covering a wide range of expression. Domesticated strains have been selectively bred to emulate the colours of the Dragonborn, however, and as a result those expressing desireable 'true' scale colours are strongly linked to both dominant temperaments and certain health conditions.
