The Farrow Family

The Farrows are a powerful family of around twenty people that control a large amount of both land and capital. The family have formed a political dynasty that now includes rule over the major city of Denmaerd which is run by both Lord Quinten Farrow and Lady Isla Farrow Under the Farrow’s careful ministrations the city has transformed from a humble seaside port to a sprawling city, officially recognised as one of the Major Cities The family now are angling towards having the city recognised as the capital of Gand to replace the current city of Zentawen.   The Farrows began as a group of bankers and salt merchants, using their money they bought land which they loaned out to farmers and craftsmen, they also invested in the exploration of several salt mines and over time have cultivated a salt empire, becoming the biggest exporter of salt in all of Gand. They also have close knit ties with several esteemed guilds including the merchants guild, fishers guild, traders guild, and engineers guild. Which they use to curry political favors and sway in exchange for patronage. They also work along craft guilds that are centered on painting, textiles, tailoring and craft work this has done wonders for bolstering Denmaeds reputation and public opinion.   The Farrows are people who above all pride themselves on presentation and how they appear outwardly to the public. They patronise a lot of arts and sciences to aid this appearance, enjoying fine fabrics, cosmetics and jewellery. A Farrow can be spotted right away as they are always in the centre of a room commanding attention and wearing the latest fashion. They are not shy about throwing around their wealth and engaging with a lavish lifestyle but this does make them out of touch with the common folk.   The Farrows are staunchly anti-magic and not shy about arresting their citizens under suspicion of sorcery, they run a tighter chokehold on Denmaerd than any other major city and if one of their political rivals is caught taking part in the magic arts well surely they should be treated appropriately. Recently the city has become destabilised due to a number of citizens being arrested including high-ranking members of other guilds, business owners and key figures in the community. Recently there has been more public pressure around the persecution of sorcerers which has now been aggravated due to an attack from a lone sorcerer (Alm bethel) who called for reformation of magic laws before aggressively targeting the royal court, in her attack she injured several of the Farrow family, including Lady Farrow, and killed three members. Coincidently the Farrows face very small amounts of opposition on most matters. Recently the city has become destabilised and tensions between the nobility and the common folk are running high. This is due to a number of citizens being arrested including high-ranking members of other guilds, business owners and key figures in the community. Much like with Zentawen when too many people are disappeared the workforce lessens and work takes longer and demands more resources. Because of this, there has been more public pressure around the persecution of sorcerers which has now been aggravated due to an attack from a lone sorcerer Alm Betjek/ The Saboteur of Denmaed who called for reformation of magic laws before aggressively targeting the royal court, in her attack she injured several of the Farrow family, including Lady Farrow, and killed three members.

Family Crest

The Farrow family crest is the yellow of the sand and the blue of the ocean- representing the coastal abundance of Denmaerd, also featured are a fish- a not to one of their biggest exports, a cloud-like puff which may represent good weather, natural fibre or salt There is a woven know for the prosperity and prolonging of the family and a small scallop shell which is likely a nod to both Marcestra De Deir and theories that modern-day Denmaerd is built upon the ancient city of Lull.
