Lady Farrow

Lady Isla Farrow is as cunning and headstrong as she is beautiful, With her soft skin and dark coal-coloured she paints a peerless image if not for her one dark eye that pieces and her other milky pale completely blind. Running down the side of her face and disappearing beneath a plunging neckline is a silvered, feathery mass of scar tissue, branching like lightning.   Lady Farrow oversees the operations of Denmaerd with a scrutinising gaze. The youngest and only daughter of the Vetlock family- a family of wealthy bankers and merchants, Lady Farrow showed her head for business at a young age and spent much of her childhood learning how to manage her families affairs, she prepared herself to take control when she came of age. But was in for a nasty shock when the responsibilities were handed down to the elder siblings, who although educated were not interested in running the business. Lady Farrow was instead betrothed to her betrothed to her husband Lord Farrow with the intent of expanding both of their families.   At the age of fifteen, Lady Farrow married a man twelve years her senior and a complete stranger. She was ousted from her family and into the home of other complete strangers each with their own pre-conceived notions about her. Where she was once involved in the coming and goings of her family business and involved with important people conducting important matters she was instead expected to trade that life for one of passivity, acting demurely and dutifully as a wife should. She soon found herself isolated even her husband seemed disengaged from her as well as his own family matters. Frustrated at her inability to fit in and her own restlessness she searched for meaning. which she found from her dress maker, a young woman who dreamed of her own dress shop. With Lady Farrow’s patronage and guiding hand she was able to turn a significant profit for the dressmaker leading to bigger and more extravagant gowns. This attracted the attention of the ladies in court, she began to tell of her business sense and convince them to invest in her. Through them she established herself as a serious leader with the logical sensibilities that Lord Farrow simply didn’t possess.   In time she came to manage more and more executive decisions and when her father-in-law died she was able to seat herself as the matriarch of the family. Under her and the rest of the family’s care Denmaerd flourished but Lady Farrow didn’t stop there, now lobbying the king, King Avrid to make Denmaerd the capital city of Gand.

Controversy

Lady Farrows rise to power has not been without turmoil and dispute. Those who oppose her operations have accused her of unfairly reporting her political rivals and nay-sayers for sorcery and having them arrested by the Brotherhood of Tarn , she is not shy about disrupting communities she fears may be organising or having the potential to organise against her, she often wields her power as a sword against her own people which has made her unfavourable with some noble families and a number of common folk.   She also has been subject of dispute by a number of trade partners who receive salt, a lot of this criticism is launched by members of the council of Wintrow  who allege that the salt mines are running dry and that the Farrow have begun to cut their salt with pulverised quartz.

The sorcerer’s attack

Six months ago at a noble event held in the Farrows courtyard the festivities were interrupted by an unkept and Wilde-eyed woman. The woman, Alm Betjek/ The Saboteur of Denmaed  pleaded with Lady Farrow to have mercy on the sorcerors under her care, when she laughed in the woman’s face. Betjak ripped open their shirt revealing a magic similar carved deep into their flesh before anyone could react a bolt of arcing lightning eminated from Betjeks body and struck sever party guests. Three Farrows does and many more were injured. Including Lady Farrow who caught the lighting in her eye partially blinding her and permanently scarring her skin.
