Neverwinter
Neverwinter (circa DR 1492)
Government
Lord Protector Dagult Neverember rules with a firm hand, keeping order through a combination of heavy taxation, military presence, and infrastructure rebuilding. Though his methods are controversial, the city’s recovery owes much to his leadership and coffers.
Industry & Trade
Neverwinter thrives on shipbuilding, fine craftwork, and trade. The Neverwinter River provides a vital inland route for goods, while the High Road connects it to Waterdeep and Luskan. Timber, fish, stone, and luxury crafts (notably jewelry and glasswork) are major exports.
Guilds and Factions
- Protectors Guard – Loyal to Lord Neverember, tasked with maintaining law and order.
- City Guard - filled with both protectors of law and order, and corrupted individuals seeking power and bribes.
- Harpers – Covert agents working to keep the city free from tyranny and corruption.
- Zhentarim – Operating quietly, seeking to control trade routes and underground markets.
- Order of the Gauntlet – Maintaining a presence to guard against threats from the north and the Mere of Dead Men.
History
Once known as the Jewel of the North, Neverwinter was devastated in 1451 DR by the eruption of Mount Hotenow, which destroyed much of the city and killed thousands. In the decades since, Lord Dagult Neverember—former Open Lord of Waterdeep—has rebuilt the city, importing craftsmen, mercenaries, and settlers to restore its splendor. While the scars of the disaster remain, Neverwinter has reclaimed much of its former glory.
