Weaving

Weaving is the art of manipulating the fabric of reality, plainly speaking. Every person is born with the potential to weave but their skill and aptitude varies greatly.

The magic is performed through hand movements that draw and fold threads into tangible forms. These threads are unique to each type of Weaving, determined by the user's abilities.

There are four main types of Weaving:

  1. Creation Weaving;
  2. Alternation Weaving;
  3. Perception Weaving;
  4. Movement Weaving.

Manifestation

Weaving begins with the creation of a line between the user's fingers.

This line represents the initial thread, the starting point that can be folded and manipulated into different shapes of various sizes. To give an example, forming a line between the thumb and index finger of both hands, and then opening them creates a rectangular plane. More complex shapes require more precise folding and weaving of multiple threads.

In a way, weaving resembles origami, where every fold matters and can change the end form. The threads are infinite in length, allowing for continuous creation, but the Weaver’s mana limits the extent of manipulation; the colour of the threads is assigned to the type of Weaving one has:

  1. Creation Weaving is blue in its various renditions;
  2. Alternation Weaving is red through to violet;
  3. Perception Weaving is yellow to orange;
  4. Movement Weaving is green, again, in its various renditions.

Users are born with invisible patterns on their bodies that light up during weaving. These patterns indicate their mana reserves and are highly randomised; there are people with just a few lines of reserves, and some who have their entire body light up.

So to speak, these patterns serve as a map (of sorts). When Weaving, they light up, indicating the flow and expenditure of mana.

With that aside, let's talk about the...

Mechanics

Weaving relies on a finite and regenerating pool of mana within the user (the one I mentioned just above). Mana serves as the energy source for manipulating threads and dictates the complexity and duration of Weaving; the act itself can be mentally and physically demanding, which requires concentration and spatial intelligence.

Overuse leads to severe fatigue, descreased mental acquity, and physical strain. Pushing beyond one's limits causes significant pain and can result in long-term damage to the Weaver's mental and physical health. Thus, mastering Weaving involves not only and skill and creativity but also energy management and restraint (:
