The Solar System

Humanities first system, their ancestoral home. The Solar System is the collection of planets, dwarf planets, moons and other celestial bodies that orbit the star known as the Sun.    The known planets that orbit the Sun are the four terrestrial planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, the two gas giant planets, Jupiter and Saturn, and the two ice giant planets, Uranus and Neptune.   Of these 8 planets, Humanity has settled new nations only on the surface of Mars, terraforming the planets surface and atmosphere to support life.   Inside the rings of Saturn is the Saturn Orbital Space Colony, established initally to harvest the heavy gas Ventureon found in the planets atmosphere, it is now the second largest off Earth colony in the Solar System.   Of the dwarf planets that orbit the sun, Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Quaoar, Makemake, Gonggon, Eris and Sedna, only Ceres has been utilised for Humanities purposes. After definitively detecting a lack of life on the dwarfs surface or water pockets, and the habitability and possibility for terraforming was officially voted against, Humanity began harvesting what resources they could from the dwarf planet. The Ceres Orbital Mining facility was constructed and began extracting the high salinity water and ice from the surface, converting them into useable resources for Humanities deep space missions.   The other manned stations in Solar are the defensive positions orbiting Uranus' moon Oberon, Neptune's moon of Triton and Jupiter's moon of Ganymede. These are each military stations, each manned by a different coalition of nations, the intent being that they would be early warning/first lines of defence should Solar face any extra-terrestial threat. The coalitions are the United Nations of America who man Oberon's orbital station. The European Collective, who man Triton. And Southern Hemisphere Union of Nations, who man the station orbiting Ganymede.
