In Serenausii culture, children are given middle names that are combinations of their parents' names. In this system, the mother's name is always put before the father's name as a sign of respect to the birth-giver. The names of the parents are modified to fit the sex of the child as well. For example, the mother's name "Amelia" is changed to "Amelio" if the child is a son, and the father's name "Marcel" is changed to "Marcella" if the child is a daughter. If no alternative forms of names exist, such as in the case of "Giovanni", the parents typically use the basic version of the name, although there have been cases of an alternate version being invented for this purpose. In addition to the names of the parents, the prefix d' meaning "of" is added. 
  Using the example of the current Emperor of Serenaux — Gérardo-Louis d'Filomeno-Allegro Régis X Fortunado — his middle name is "d'Filomeno-Allegro", which roughly means "of Filomena and Allegro". Filomena was the name of Gérardo-Louis' mother, and his father's name was Allegro.
  In the case of compounded given names, only the first part of the given name is passed on as part of the child's middle name. For example, Emperor Gérardo-Louis d'Filomeno-Allegro Régis X Fortunado's son Guiseppe d'Eloise-Gérardo Régis' middle name is "d'Eloise-Gérardo", using only the "Gérardo" part of Gérardo-Louis' name.
