Lolth - The Spider Queen

Lolth is the Goddess of Domination, Murder, and she is also the patron of Spiders. Lolth is a tyrannical, hateful and sadistic deity, taking pleasure in the suffering of others. She also despises anyone and anything who isn’t a Drow or a Spider, believing all else to be impure.   Lolth was once a mortal queen, the Elven descendant of Queen Arachne. Arachne was banished to the Underdark along with her people, the Drow, during the Silver Age, after she betrayed the Goddess Athena, and as punishment, she was transformed into a horrifying spider-like creature.   Seeking revenge for her ancestor, Lolth declared war on the Gods, and was one of those responsible for beginning the Exorsian Civil Wars. During these wars, Lolth discovered a way to ascend to godhood. Magic that was beyond the capabilities of the mages of Arcanum, so it is unknown how she discovered these rites, with some speculating that she was aided by one of the Dark Deities.   Lolth’s ascension led to the end of the Exorsian Civil Wars, as the Pantheon allied to defeat her, banishing and imprisoning Loth within the Shadowfell. Her ascension also led to the Gods preventing any future divine ascension through the Divine Truce. Because of this Lolth is sometimes known as the “Last God”.   Because of her reputation Lolth is usually only referred to by epithets, such as “the Spider Queen” or “the Mother of Murder” as to avoid waking her or drawing her attention.   Lolth is not worshipped outside of specific cults or by the Drow of the Underdark, many of whom serve Lolth as their head of state. Worshippers of Lolth wish to appease her through acts of cruelty and devotion, with her most loyal followers becoming transformed into Driders, half spider hybrids, beings made in the image of the Goddess.   Murders and Assassins may also invoke Lolth for success in their endeavours.

Apperance

  Lolth is commonly depicted close to as she was in life, a beautiful middle aged Drow Elf woman with dark purple skin and long white hair. But instead of legs, below her waist is the abdomen and legs of a colossal black spider. Loth is also sometimes depicted with eight black, pupil-less eyes and fangs.
