Reading Challenge 2025
I loved participating in the summer camp as it helped me to expand my world and the prompts helped me think of new ideas that I would have originally thought of. Unfortunately, I've still got a long way to go before my world is ready for the book I'm planning on writing but this has definitely helped.
Despite aiming for the silver badge I only managed to achieve copper with 8 articles. 5 of those articles were completed in the first week, where I was thinking I might even reach gold or diamond, but I lost my inspiration during the other weeks, only managing to write another 3 articles. We were going through a heatwave at the time and I found it really hard to think in the heat. However, I am proud of the articles I did manage to write and will use the notes I wrote down for the other prompts to inspire me to write more articles in the coming months.
Articles
I have decided to choose 10 random articles, each from a different prompts that catch my eye. I'm aiming to ensure that these articles I pick have a low number of views in an attempt to read the articles that probably haven't had many people actually read and comment on them. For this reason I will be leaving a comment on each of the articles to explain what I liked about them and some questions that I would like to know about the topic.
Notes: I loved the article and it was really interesting to explore the concept of magic decaying like organic matter, especially idea of maggots that break it down faster. Additionally, I wanted to know more about the rituals that are performed using the decaying magic, as well as other species of plant that were mentioned to also break down the decaying magic.
Notes: The article was very interesting as I never thought of the prompt like that. I loved the fact that the tree feeds off magic and was interested about how it is used by magic users. Mushrooms are great and any article containing them is always interesting as they can be used in many different ways. And anti magic mushrooms are even better.
Notes: I love the idea of using controversial to mean strange and unusual not anything illegal or even downright evil. I suspect that is something that not many people have thought about. I was interested throughout the article about how the author interpreted the prompt and the different ideas such as how they are viewed by others and their values.
Author: Avendir
World: Eldux
Prompt: An ever-changing location that requires its inhabitants to adapt
Notes: I really liked the concept of having a forge in volcano that is fueled by its power and heat. It's really interesting to read about the entire history of the settlement and how it was founded as it shows that a lot of thought was put into the article. I also loved the use of the volcano as a problem for the city but also being responsible for its entire existence.
Notes: The idea that something good and pure can be used as a poison is really interesting. I love that it makes perfect sense for why it is a poison for demons but the opposite for others and the overall purifying properties of celestial magic. Also, I liked that the article was really easy to read, the information was laid out simply, and there was no unnecessary sections of information.
Unfortunately, I ran out of time to write about and comment on every article due to having to complete this challenge the day before it closed. Here is a list of the 5 other articles that I read but was unable to do anything further:
