Old Imperial Highway

By 3 AE, all of Allethra had been conquered by the Allesend Empire, but the newly conquered nations chafed under their new rule. God-Emperor Alles-Taluus saw the necessity to bring the Empire together, both culturally and physically. He envisioned a trade route stemming from the capital city of Allesar, reaching to all corners of the Empire, along which Alln goods and culture could be shared with the rest of the continent.   Construction began in 5 AE, beginning from three cities: Allesar, Metrovo, and Erminster. By 8 AE, the roads met at Northmount and Altalerno, connecting the three major cities. Another road was built to connect Ravenmere to the Highway soon after. With the previous nations' capitals connected to Allesar, as well as to numerous other towns and cities along the way, the Empire began shipping supplies, artists, musicians, and historians along the highway. Over the next century, Allesar's influence solidified.   The Highway continued to spread during the reign of the Allesend Empire. Notably, after the death of Alles-Taluus in 153 AE, increasing tensions with Faloriand led to a new branch of the Highway being constructed to directly connect Allesar to the then-region of Hiladhel, where Imperial loyalty was stronger. Other branches were extended to cities such as Bronzehall, Toelma, and Pirasan. The final stretch of Highway was finished in 183 AE, connecting to Castle Ember on the border of the Pliscian Wastes.   After the fall of the Allesend Empire in 320 AE, the East-West portion of the Highway in central Allethra was used as the new border between Edrana and the reformed state of Allesend.   Today, individual nations maintain the Highway within their own borders, continuing to utilize the system of roads to ship goods overland.
