Fury Crafter

Fury Crafter

A Dwarven woman meditates with her axe in her hands. Her breath is slow and steady. Suddenly, the steel seems to flow up and over her skin, encasing her in a second skin of hardened steel. She wades into battle a nigh unkillable juggernaut, leaving nothing but hewn bodies in her wake.

Two crafters scream by on tightly controlled wind streams. One hurls a bolt of white hot fire in the form of a Falcon at the other. While the fire fury streaks towards them, the desperate crafter bends the air around them, slipping behind a veil, and desperately flies for cover.

A water crafter grabs hold of the nearly dead soldier, dragging them into the healing tub. He shoves his hand into the tub and wills his fury into the water, desperately willing it to grab the soldier from the brink of death and drag them back to the land of the living. This is the third time today he has had to do this, and as soon as he's done, he falls over, succumbing to exhaustion.

The Half-Elven Crafter stalks silently through the high grass. Her Wood and Earth furies have led her to the den of the Wyvern that has been plaguing the local people. When the creature emerges, she stands up and draws back her impossible large and heavy bow, using her Furies to help her wield the huge war bow. With a single arrow, she slays the beast.

Fury Crafting

Fury Crafting is not magic in either the Arcane or the Divine sense. Crafters don't enact their will directly on the world like a wizard or a cleric does. Their abilities do not come from some deep well of power from within, like a Bard or a Sorcerer. Instead, Fury Crafters enter compacts with natural beings called Furies. The Crafter then bends the fury to their will. The stronger the will and more powerful the Crafter, the stronger and more numerous the furies they can hold.

When these furies physically manifest, many of them take similar shapes. Swift predatory fish such as sharks or marlin for water furies. Large, strong beasts such as mastiffs, bulls, or elephants for earth furies. Dangerous predatory creatures such as falcons or dragons for fire furies. Long-legged swift creatures like deer, horses, and gazelle for air furies. Swift and stealthy forest predators like panthers, monkeys, and wolves for wood furies. Metal furies often take the shape of people, faceless and expressionless. They are very rarely physically manifested.

It still isn't fully known why and how furies choose to manifest. Parentage can have some to do with it, and there have always been families who have strong crafting bloodlines. These people often marry each other to produce equally or more talented children. Extremely powerful crafters can come from humble roots with parents with minor or no Crafting ability. There are references to Fury Crafting going back to the beginning of writing. Some believe Fury Crafting to be the oldest form of "magic" there is.

Level 1: Fury Crafting

Fury Crafters live in near constant contact with the furies they are bound to. Some crafters only ever bind to one kind of fury. These people often show an incredible depth of skill with their chosen specialty. Focused Water Crafters are unparalleled healers, while Focused Metal Crafters are the deadliest fighters in all the world.

Other crafters choose to have a wide variety of furies. These generalists can do incredible things, such as fly while hurling fire from their hands or stalk through woods unseen while gliding along the earth. While these crafters lack the depth with a single fury the way a more focused crafter has, they more than make up for it in versatility.

Greater Fury Powers

You learn 4 greater fury powers at this level. Three types of greater fury powers exist: Active, Immediate, and Passive. Whenever you gain a new level in this class, you can swap a known power for a different power you meet the prerequisites for.

Active Powers

Active powers are potent manifestations of a furies might. Flying through the air, wreathing your body in fire, and convincing the natural flora to conceal yourself and your allies are all examples of Active Powers. Active Powers require Concentration, using the same mechanic as Spells. You can only concentrate on 1 Active Power at a time. The number of Active Powers you can concentrate on at once increases to 2 at 5th level, 3 at 11th, and 4 at 17th level.

Immediate Powers

These powers are sudden manifestations of a furies abilities. Explosive balls of fire, powerful gusts of wind, and localized earthquakes are all examples of these kinds of powers. These powers are usable a certain number of times a day without chance of danger.

Passive Powers

These powers are subtle pieces of Fury Crafting that the crafters learn and internalize after long exposure to their furies. For many Crafters, these passive powers become so internalized they don't even realize they are using them. An Earth Crafter's prodigious strength, a Wind Crafter's grace and reflexes, and a Water Crafter's insight are all examples of passive powers. These powers do not count towards the Maximum level of Fury Crafting a Crafter can use at one time.

Fury Attacks and Save DC

You use your Charisma modifier to determine your ability to manipulate your furies. If a power calls for a Fury Crafter Attack, your attack bonus equals your Charisma Modifier + your Proficiency. Your save DC for any power that calls for a save equals 8 + your Charisma Modifier + Proficiency Bonus.

Crafting Points

You have an internal reservoir of power that can be devoted to manifesting and controlling your furies. This power is represented by crafting points. Each fury crafting power costs a number of points equal to its level.

The number of crafting points you have is based on your Fury Crafter level, as shown in the Crafting Points column of the Fury Crafter table. The number shown for your level is your Crafting Point maximum. Your Crafting Point total returns to its maximum when you finish a long rest. The number of Crafting Points you have can't go below 0 or over your maximum.

Crafting Limit

Though you have access to a potent amount of Fury Crafting power, it takes training and practice to channel that energy. There is a limit on the number of Crafting Points you can spend to activate a Fury Crafting Power. The limit is based on your Fury Crafter level, as shown in the Crafting Limit column of the Fury Crafter table. For example, as a 3rd-level Fury Crafter, you can spend no more than 3 Crafting Points on a power each time you use it, no matter how many Crafting Points you have.

Pushing Past Your Limit

If you want to manifest one of these powers and are out of crafting points, you can still manifest the power; however, you risk exhaustion if you do. After manifesting one of these powers, you must make a Constiution save equal to 10+ Fury level or take at least one point of exhaustion. For more powerful abilities, the exhaustion can be even worse.

Level 1: Minor Fury Power

You bind to two minor furies that give you access to powers that are usable at will. The more minor fury powers you have, the more powerful they become. You bind to an additional Minor Fury at 7th, 13th and 18th level.

Level 2: Swift Binding

Starting at this level, when you use an Active power that requires an Action, you can do it as a Bonus Action rather than a full Action. This ability is usable 1/short rest. You gain an additional use at 9th and 15th levels.

Level 3: Crafter Subclass

You can pick which crafter subclass you want to pursue at this level. Either the singular drive of the Focused Crafter who devotes themselves to the mastery of one style of crafting or the versatility of the Generalist who balances versatility and deadly force. You gain additional features at levels 6, 10, 14, and 18.

Level 3: Extra Skills

As your connection to crafting and the greater world deepens, so too do your abilities. You gain proficiency in any 2 skills you choose.

Level 4: Ability Score Improvement or Feat

You gain the Ability Score Improvement feat (see Chapter 5 of the Players Handbook) or another feat of your choice for which you qualify. You gain this feature again at Fury Crafter levels 8,12, and 16.

Level 5: Extra Concentration

Starting at this level, you can concentrate on 2 Fury powers at once rather than just one. When you take damage or anything else triggers a Concentration check, you make a separate check for each power you are concentrating on. You can concentrate on 3 powers at 11th level and 4 at 17th level.

Level 5: Productive Rest

You have learned to not only restore your body while resting but also your resolve. 1/day when you take a Short Rest you can spend hit die and regain Crafting points, rather than Hit Points. To do this roll a hit die like you would normally to regain Hit Points, you instead gain a number of Crafting Ponts equal to the number rolled plus your Charisma Modifier.

You can use this power 2/day starting at 11th level.

Level 9: Fury Strike

At 9th level, you can channel the power of your furies into your attacks. When you make a Weapon Attack or Fury Crafting attack with a Minor or Greater Fury power, you may add 1d6 of elemental damage. The type of damage you manifest is based on what kinds of furies you are bound to. You must have a third level power in a type of fury-crafting to use its corresponding Fury Strike.

Earth: Thunder

Air: Electricity

Fire: Fire

Water: Cold

Metal: Force

Wood: Piercing

Level 19: Epic Boon

You gain an Epic Boon feat (see Chapter 5 of the Players Handbook) or another feat of your choice for which you qualify.

Level 20: Master of the Furies

You have truly become a master of Fury Crafting; your abilities are unmatched and seemingly limitless. Each round in combat, at the start of your turn, you may select one power below 7th level that you have fewer than the maximum number of uses for. You regain one expended use of a power of your choice below 7th level.

subclass options:

Focused Crafter

Some crafters only manifest one kind of Greater Fury. While they may not have the versatility of a Generalist Crafter, they more than makeup for it with the depth of their connection and breadth of knowledge of their chosen specialty. Anyone with a good handle on Metal Crafting can be a deadly sword fighter, but a Focused Metal Crafter is one of the deadliest weapon wielders in the world. While anyone with a bit of watercrafting can do some emergency healing, Focuse Water Crafters have been known to snatch people from the grasp of death itself.

NOTE: To take this Subclass, you must select one kind of Greater Fury Power; from this level forward, you can only learn 4th level or higher Greater Fury Powers in that chosen discipline.

Level 3: Deadly Focus

Your steady and deliberate work with one kind of Fury Crafting has allowed you to bring more of yourself to bear when using these powers. When you deal damage with an Active or Immediate Fury Crafting Power, you add your Charisma Modifier to the damage. You also apply this bonus damage to any Minor Fury Powers from the same element as your chosen focus.

Level 6: Internalized Crafting

You learn an additional Passive Power of your chosen Focus. You gain an additional Passive power at 12th level.

Level 10: Greater Focus

The duration of any Immediate or Active powers with a duration longer than Instantaneous is doubled for powers in your chosen focused Fury Crafting.

Level 14: Greater Fury Strike

Your Fury Strike dice go up to 3d6 for your chosen Focused Fury Crafting.

Generalist Crafter

A Generalist Crafter may not have the depth of power with a single fury discipline like a Focused Crafter. Still, the breadth of their powers and their versatility makes them incredibly dangerous enemies or valued allies. Powerful Generalist Craftera can fly through the air, borne aloft on a wind fury while hurling flame, bringing death from above. Or they can be subtle assassins using a blend of water crafting to hide their face and metal crafting to slay enemies in hand to hand combat. Mighty rangers stalk the wild lands using their wood furies to traverse the landscape unseen and undetected and their earth crafting to find and slay terrible beasts.

Level 3: Many Furies to Call

You learn two Fury Powers that you meet the prerequisites for. These powers can not both be the same kind of Fury Power. ty

Level 6: Minor Fury Mastery

When use either an Action or Bonus Action to manifest a Minor Fury Power, you can manifest two powers that use the same action.

Level 10: Greater Fury Power

3/day You can use an Action to manifest 2 Greater Fury Powers. These Powers must be Immediate and have a duration of Istantaneous.

Level 14: Weilder of the Great Furies

Choose one Fury Power you know, you gain an additional use of this ability per day.
